SYNOPSIS
Topic:
Hyderabad habitat centre

Broad typology of Thesis


The nature and typology of the architectural thesis is study and design based.

Aim
To develop an integrated physical environment in which various professions and institutions dealing
with different facets of habitat and habitat related environmental issues would function, interact and
attempt to resolve habitat related problems in a coordinated manner.

Prologue / Justification of the Topic


The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has proposed to develop Hyderabad
Habitat Centre (HHC) on the lines of Indian Habitat Centre (IHC) based in New Delhi through Public
Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The HHC would provide the finest space along with socio-cultural
infrastructure like convention centers that are equipped with the state of art technology and provide a
range of facilities. The HHC should be able to host regular cultural and entertainment events which
would include theatre, movies, dance and music renditions, art exhibitions, talks, walks, workshops and
childrens events. The aim is to develop an integrated physical environment in which various professions
and institutions dealing with different facets of habitat and habitat related environmental issues would
function, interact and attempt to resolve habitat related problems in a coordinated manner. One of the
other main aims would be promoting awareness with regard to habitat related environmental issues
including water, air, noise and waste pollution, energy and its conservation, water and human waste
management and other such matters besides promoting better urban and rural settlements relevant to
the Indian social, cultural and economic context. It would also promote education, research, training
and professional development on habitat and human settlement and environment related issues by
organizing conferences, seminars, lectures, public debates and exhibitions.

Objectives

Develop an integrated physical environment in which various professions and institutions


dealing with different facets of habitat and habitat related environmental issues would function,
interact and attempt to resolve habitat related problems in a coordinated manner.
Promote awareness in regard to habitat related environmental issues including water, air, noise
and waste pollution, energy and its conservation, water and human waste management and
other such matters.
Promote better urban and rural settlements relevant to the Indian social, cultural, and economic
context and related to the lifestyle of its people.
Inculcate better awareness and sensitivity in regard to all aspects of creative human activity
including the significance of art in habitat.
Promote education, research, training and professional development on habitat and human
settlement and environment related issues.
Organize and promote conferences, seminars, lectures, public debates and exhibitions in
matters relating to habitat, human settlements and environment.

Proposed Site
About 12.5 acres at Izzatnagar, close to Hi-Tech City railway station, Hyderabad.

Requirements
The core facilities at habitat centre would include.

Visual art gallery and sculpture courts


Library and resource centre
A learning centre for organizing workshops, training, studio works etc

An Artiplex to host events rounds the year with four to five theatres.
Some more proposed facilities include an open air theatre, landscaped gardens, plazas, office
spaces, board rooms, conference halls, banquet halls and member facilities like guest
accommodation, food courts, club house and indoor sports.

Methodology

Firstly understanding both the site and the city.


Research and case studies.
Analysing and compiling research and case study data.
Developing and designing.
