Proposal Information
I. Seminar Information
a) General Topic Research-based Teaching Strategies in Special Education
b) Seminar Title Evidence-Based Teaching Strategies For Special Education
c) Seminar Description This seminar will, though lecture and discussion will inform and
educate students about current research-based instructional strategies being applied in
Special Education (specifically in Autism, ADHD and Learning Disabilities). Length of
Time (e.g. 3.5 or 4.0 hours) 4 hours
II. Priority Issue
Educate young people in current evidence-based teaching methods and strategies in special
education. Create awareness on PWDs, inspire and motivate students to become advocates
III. Goal
To develop necessary teaching skills to enable youths to educate people with disabilities and
apply them in real life situations. Inspire and motivate students to become PWD advocates.
IV. Objective(s)
1. Develop knowledge on research-based instructional strategies for Autism that can increase
the success of students at risk for learning problems.
2. Develop knowledge on research-based instructional strategies for ADHD that can increase
the success of students at risk for learning problems.
3. Develop knowledge on research-based instructional strategies for Learning Disabilities that
can increase the success of students at risk for learning problems.
4. Students will be able to apply these teaching strategies in real life situations.
5. Create awareness on PWDs, inspire and motivate students to become advocates.
How will the learning objectives be achieved?

1. Problem-based learning (i.e. students given situations, scenarios, problems and have to solve
them using the learning objective outlined above)
2. Lecture/Discussion (i.e. 90 minutes of lecture and discussion)
3. Motivational Speech
