ANALYSIS 6.

1
Analyzing the given scenario, the post project review was carried out on immediate
basis in order to identify the reasons that led to the cancellation of the project even
though it was progressing flawlessly. For that matter, there are some set guidelines
and post project principles that the organizations need to consider coming up with an
effective evaluation of its weaknesses or failure altogether. These include objectivity,
internal consistency, replicability and fairness.
The organization as a whole immensely lacked objectivity. The new sponsor cancelled
the project right away as he made a reactionary decision without evaluating or
reviewing it. He had no logical justification as to why he has abandoned the project
calling it 'hurtful for the organization's environment', when it was nearly in its successful
execution phase. It was more or less a biased decision on his part, leaving the entire
project team clueless and disappointed because they had been working on the
respective project since 4 years and wanted an explanation at least as to what went
wrong in the end. An unstable environment prevailed in the organization at that time as
their prior sponsor left for another job letting down all his team members. Adding to that,
there was no consensus of views between the team and the new sponsor hence, the
idea of internal consistency lacked to a great extent.
The organizational costs increased as it was a large project and was being funded
regularly since the past four years. Even if the sponsor had problem continuing that
project, he could have suggested replicating the concept, giving it a new name and
incorporating his ideas and eliminating the possible flaws that prompted him to cancel

the project. Thereby, mitigating the additional costs of completely starting a new project
as well as, covering the earlier expenses at the same time. The overall attitude of the
sponsor was biased and inequitable. The manager supervising the project was fired as
he was not on the same page as the sponsor, who enforced his perceptions and views
on the entire team, ignoring the hard work and efforts they had been putting in the
project since the last few years. Therefore, the project was bound to fail even if it was
potentially capable of doing well in the subsequent years.
A responsible and efficient sponsor would have reviewed the project's strengths and
weaknesses in specific, and taken the team members in confidence as well by listing its
drawbacks if any, and giving concrete evidences as to why he cancelled the project,
considering its successful execution phase. SWOT analysis and other related analysis
need to be ventured before starting a new project. Motivating the team members would
have made the organization's environment more stable and comfortable. Moreover,
rational decisions to be taken for budgeting within the organization as to manage the
costs incurred at that very time. If the sponsor would have taken all that factors into
account, the organization would have definitely been able to come up with better,
improved projects and well satisfied employees in future.
