Scheme of the lesson development

Introductory part of the

lesson:

First, I greet students, write down todays lesson in the class book and
ask if there are any absent students. Then I ask the students if they had
any homework and ask them to read it. After reading homework I
write the title of todays lesson on the blackboard (Scouts), then ask
students to tell me if they know something about The Scout
Movement, after which I suggest them to read introduction to the
lesson from their text books.

In the main part I play the recording for students to listen, and then I
ask them to read the text once more. After reading the text I write
possible unknown words on the blackboard and check with students if
they know the meaning of those words in their language. I ask the
class if someone among them is/was a scout or if they would like to
join and what kind of activities they would like to be involved with.
I ask students to complete exercise no. 4 from their text books which is
to complete the sentences from the text with the correct verb forms. I
check their answers. Then students do exercise no. 5 orally. They need
to read the sentences from the text and match the columns(1-2) with
the uses of the tenses (a-b)
Main part of the lesson

Students do exercise no. 6, completing sentences with the verbs in the

Present Perfect Continuous; I check and perhaps correct their answers.
I ask students to write exercise no.8 in their notebooks, then on the
blackboard. They are supposed to read situations and use the cues to
write one sentence in the Present Perfect or the Present Perfect
Continuous. Example:
Shes watching TV (watch TV for hours/watch three films)
1.
2.

Final part of the lesson

Shes been watching TV for hours

Shes watched three films.

In the final part I check if students understood the difference between

the Present Perfect and the Present Perfect Continuous by telling them
to do exercise no. 9 in their textbooks. They complete the text by
putting the verbs in brackets in the Present Perfect or the Present
Perfect Continuous.
I give students an assignment for homework.

Homework:

Students are supposed to translate todays lesson Scouts into Bosnian,

do the exercise no.10 from their text book i.e., to write about things
they have been doing and things they have done recently.
If we have some extra time, I give students handouts to complete three
exercises.
The first exercise is to complete sentences with the verbs in brackets
with the verbs in the Present Perfect. Example:
-

Additional

We have sold (sell) our car at last!

The second one is to write sentences in order to explain the situation.

They put the verbs in brackets in the Present Perfect Continuous.
Example:

smoking (smoke) in here.

The last one is to complete sentences in the Present Perfect or the

Present Perfect Continuous. Example:
-

Scouts

The Scout Movement was founded in 1907 in the United Kingdom by Sir Robert Baden-Powell.
The mission of the movement is to help young people develop as individuals, citizens and
members of their local, national and international communities. There are 28 million scouts
worldwide. Famous former scouts include Paul McCartney, Stephen Spielberg and David Beckham.

Read the text. Which scouts do something for their local community?
-

Francisco, The Philippines

I've been a scout for two years and it's been a lot of fun. This year we've been learning to survive in the
forest. I've learnt to find my way using a map and the sun. We've been studying forest plants but I
haven't learnt to recognise edible ones yet. I've also learnt some first aid.
-

Zoltan, Hungary

In my scout group, we focus on our environment. We collect litter, clear our local river,
monitor water pollution and feed wild birds in winter. This year we've been planting new trees
in our area. I've planted more than a hundred myself!
-

Joan, Australia

My scout group works with old and handicapped people. This year we've been checking how
easy life is for people in wheelchairs in our town. We've been taking photos of street signs,
entrances to shops and public buildings and the pavements. We've been talking to bus drivers
and police officers. When we finish, we'll prepare a report for the local council.

Aldona, Poland

My scout group is interested in history. We are looking after memorials from World War II in
our town. For two years now, we've been collecting money for their restoration. We've collected
f300 so far.
