The Dead Sea Scrolls represent the remains of an ancient Jewish library which antedates 68
C.E. It is the most signi cant discovery of biblically related ancient manuscripts, and represents
more than 600 ancient Jewish documents. The series being published by J. C. B. Mohr (Paul
Siebeck) and Westminster/John Knox Press will present an introduction, critical text, and literal
English translations of all Dead Sea Scrolls which are not copies of books in the Hebrew Bible.
This series is the defenitive collection of the Dead Sea Scrolls and will conclude with a volume
on the Biblical Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha, and a concordance to the collection. Thirtyeight scholars from Canada, Germany, Israel, the United States, and other countries serve as
subeditors in the series.

The rst volume contains the rst improved edition of 1QS with a critical apparatus, all the
fragments of the Rule of the Community found in Caves IV and V a literal translation to each of
these, which is prepared so that the Hebrew is on the left page and the translation on the
right. Critical notes help the scholar understand the text, the variants, philological subtleties,
and explain the translations. Documents related to the Rule of the Community are olso
contained in the rst volume of this series.
