Text(s) for Study: Isaiah 58, Matthew 25:31-40

Prepare Your Heart:

Read Isaiah 58. Israel was often found enjoying the things of
God without enjoying God himself! They were the people whose
lips praised God, but whose hearts were far from Him. We can
look down our noses at this disobedient people and roll our eyes in
arrogance; or we can truly examine our sinful nature, find
ourselves as guilty as they, and heed the words of Christ so that
our hearts will not be far from Him!

Read Matthew 25:31-40. The obedience Christ calls us to is the

very thing that He portrayed in becoming a servant and dying on a
cross. Pray that God will give you clarity as you teach this radical
obedience to Christ.

Organize and Plan Your Lesson:

- Characters:
Jesus, disciples
- Intro:
Do you have toys at your house? (allow children give
answers)
Some children don’t have toys.

Do you have a bed at your house? (allow children to give

answers)
Some children don’t have a bed.

Do you have food that your parents give you? (allow

children to give answers)
Some children don’t have food to eat.
- Teach the Narrative
Jesus told us how we are supposed to take care of these
people who are hungry, sick, and homeless. Listen to
what He told His disciples. Some day, Jesus is going to
come and sit on His throne. All people of all nations will
be there and he will separate them into two groups.

To the group of people who obey, He will tell them that

they will be in the Kingdom of God. He will tell the
obedient that because they fed Jesus when He was
hungry, gave a drink to Him while He was thirsty,
welcomed Him when He was a stranger, and clothed Jesus
when He was naked.

When the people hear Jesus say this, they will say,
“When did we do that? We didn’t see Jesus hungry,
thirsty, a stranger, or naked!”

But Jesus will tell them that whatever they do for

anyone who needs help, they are doing for Him!

- Explain the Narrative

One way we worship God is to love the people around us.
When we love the people who are around us, we are being
like Christ, and glorifying God!

Let’s memorize this verse so that we are reminded to

think of others:
Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but
also to the interest of others. – Philippians 2:4
