Snow patrol . Well weve had the heavy rains and flooding,
However, its usually after Christmas that the snow comes along! And
we are now starting to experience some very cold wintry weather!
A few years ago we had a snow patrol on stand-by in case we got
snow or very icy weather. It was in place for two reasonsif we get
heavy snow I cant shift it all by myself to make the grounds accessible
and safe!, and that doesnt just apply to weekends, we have funerals
during the week etc. Also its the same when the temperature drops. I
think everyone knows how icy and dangerous our car park becomes, so
it takes a lot of gritting to make it (and the paths around church) safe.
There was another purpose also and that was for when we get
heavy snow, many of our older parishioners cant and shouldnt go out
in those kind of conditions, so we had a team of people who would
either walk to the shops and get the shopping for them, or use their 4x4s
to get the shopping. If we have in place a list of people willing to help
out, then the parishioners who need this, if it happens, can phone the
Parish Office and we can mobilise people from here. It worked very
well a few years ago, simply because we had the systems in place.
So if you would be willing to be part of the snow patrol, please
fill in the form and hand it to Fr Paul or pop it through the letter-box, or
email the office on: paul.cannon@dioceseofsalford.org.uk and we can
begin compiling our lists. Let us know which aspect you can help out
with, snow clearing and gritting and/or shopping for housebound.
(a few more volunteers have joined the patrolthank you)
Many thanks
Fr Paul.

THIS YEARS CRIB OFFERINGS

Once again you have been so generous
in your crib offering. The total donated
to pay for Collins Secondary education is a staggering 2020.90. This
means that we have raised enough
money to cover the first two years of Collins secondary
school education.
On Thursday (14th January) Collins began
his studies at St Peters Seminary, and although it will be difficult at first for him to
be away from the security of the Good Life
orphanage, he seems to be settling in well
from the accounts we have been receiving.
I am sure that Collins realises how important the next 4 years are going to be for
him, and with your help he will be able to
fulfil his dream of furthering his education:
So, on behalf of Collins and Mary and
Kevin, thank you for your amazing generosity again this
Christmastide.
Thank you. Fr Paul.

THE YEAR OF MERCY

Pope Francis

Lord Jesus Christ,

you have taught us to be merciful like the
heavenly Father, and have told us that
whoever sees you sees Him.
Show us your face and we will be saved.
Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from
being enslaved by money;
the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness
only in created things; made Peter weep after his
betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief.
Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the
words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman:
If you knew the gift of God! You are the visible
face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests
his power above all by forgiveness and mercy:
let the Church be your visible face in the world, its
Lord risen and glorified.
You willed that your ministers would also be clothed
in weakness in order that they may feel compassion
for those in ignorance and error:
let everyone who approaches them feel sought after,
loved, and forgiven by God.
Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with
its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a
year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with
renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the
poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed,
and restore sight to the blind.
We ask this of you, Lord Jesus, through the
intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy; you who live
and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever
and ever.
Amen.
