EXPERIMENT NO: 1

SELF-CONCEPT QUESTIONNAIRE
AIM OF THE EXPERIMENT:
To assess the self-concept of individuals using the Self-Concept Questionnaire.
PLAN:
To administer the Self-Concept questionnaire, classify the raw scores and interpret them for
arriving at the individuals self-concept.
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
1) Self-Concept questionnaire
2) Instruction manual with norms
ABOUT THE TOOL:
The Self-Concept questionnaire consists of 48 items and was developed by Dr. Raj Kumar
Saraswat. It provides 6 separate dimensions of self-concept - physical, social, intellectual,
moral, educational and temperamental.

PROCEDURE:
1. For administering the test, ensure that the students are seated in proper arrangement.
2. They should have a pen or pencil to mark the responses.
3. After explaining the purpose of the test, assure that the responses will be kept
confidential.
4. Distribute the Self-Concept Inventory to the subjects.
5. Read the instructions properly and ensure that they have been understood properly.

6. Any doubts in meaning of words raised by the subjects should be answered frankly
and promptly.
7. There is no time limit for the test, but generally 20 minutes has been hound sufficient
for completing the test.
INSTRUCTIONS TO BE GIVEN TO THE SUBJECT:
Read the following instructions from the inventory:
This is a self-concept inventory. There are 48 items in it. Against each item are 5
responses. You have to read each of the item carefully and respond to it by marking a tick on
any one of the 5 responses given against that item, which you think describe you well. There
are no right or wrong answers. The right answer is only what you feel about yourself. There is
no time limit for the test, but do not think too much on any question. Respond what comes to
your mind immediately. Your answers will be kept confidential.
PRECAUTIONS:
A) Instructions should be very clear to the subject.
B) There is no time limit for the test, but generally 20 minutes has been hound sufficient for
completing the test.
SCORING:
1. The responses are arranged in a way that the scoring system for all items will remain
the same ie. 5,4,3,2,1.

2. Mark the raw score in the box provided beside each question.
3. The summated score for all the 48 items provide the total self-concept of the
individual.
4. On the first page of the booklet, the items are grouped according to the six dimensions
- physical, social, temperamental, educational, moral and intellectual

5. Transfer the score of each item on the front page against that item.
6. This will give you the score for that particular dimension of self-concept.
