Supporting Bible translation in Papua New Guinea

January 2016
Semester Two is coming. The school administration
team (pictured right) just met for a day-long meeting to
discuss future school plans and issues. I really enjoy
working with this group of people.
Im also preparing for the new semester which will be
starting next Wednesday. Sharon (the Primary
Campus Vice Principal, pictured standing right) and I
have been troubleshooting schedules and updating
student lists.
In addition to my administration duties, this semester
Ill be continuing to teach my math class and will be
adding on several tutoring students, so Im also
updating and creating lesson plans in preparation for
teaching.
I always enjoy school breaks because the campus is calm, and Im able to concentrate on projects for more
than ten minutes at a time, but it will be nice to have our students back next week. Theyre an enjoyable
crowd, and I love working with them.
Today Im orienting our new school receptionist to her job and preparing a math village program. One of the
Grade 6 students will be in a remote village with her translator and literacy coach parents for a few months,
and since the Grade 6 maths teacher isnt back from her Christmas holiday, Im pulling together the math
materials the student will need to keep up with her class for the time that shes away from school. All of her
work will be flown out to her village next week. The village program is an important service to our families
working on Bible translation projects around the country.
Thank you for your continued involvement in my ministry: Im a teacher and administrator at a missionary kid
school that enables Bible translation efforts in Papua New Guinea.

Praises: Left: Its been raining! Area gardens are producing again and the morning market is plentifullife is much
easier when water is readily available! Center: Several finance personnel have been hired, and some volunteers are
planning on travelling to PNG to help the finance office. One of the volunteers is even bringing his teacher wife.

My Eyes Were Blind

Told by Luke Aubrey, Written by Catherine
Rivard with Tim Scott
My eyes were blind to the truths in Scripture. A
mother stood, her face shining, but now I feel as
if I am beginning to see. Its as if cataracts have
been removed from my eyes!
Although the Borong New Testament was
dedicated in 2003, Dan and Kathy, two
translators, knew the Borong speakers needed
more Bible teaching in how to apply the Gods
Word to their lives. So, they asked for a SALT
course to be held in Ebabang, Morobe Province. SALT, or Scripture
Application and Leadership Training, is a two-week course held
throughout Papua New Guinea, teaching people how to study and
apply their translated Scriptures. Over 250 people flocked to the
Borong sessions, and Gods Word touched many lives.
A pastors wife was convicted about her use of her tongue. Yesterday
afternoon I went back to the village and didnt even take time to go into
my own house. Dropping my bag on the porch, I went door to door in
my community asking forgiveness of all those whom I have wronged.
I had thought I had my Christian life all figured out, shared one
church leader. But now I see that I am nothing in myself. Only by
Gods grace am I anything at all. I need to completely surrender my life
to Him.

Aussie Animals
I wanted to go whale watching while I
was on my Christmas break in Australia,
but it wasnt whale season. I did,
however, manage to see bits of
dolphins as they danced by my friends
fishing boat and the Aussie standards:
kangaroos, platypuses and koalas.
Koalas are certainly cute! My friend and
host explained, however, that they can
be quite fierce as she related her
childhood Ive been chased by a koala
stories.

A life-long church goer, one elderly woman remembered how she first
learned to read the Bible in another language, The Bible never spoke
to me, she recalled. I thought the Bible was just something to be read
without ever understanding its meaning. In 2003, the New Testament
came to us... I was excited because now the Bible was in my own
language. But as I read, I still struggled to find any application.
However in the last two weeks, I have begun to taste the sweetness of
Gods Word. I now see how it can be directly applied to my life and
realize that there is real food in there for me to daily feed upon.
