DIY Frameless Glass Pool Fence Core Drill Fixing!

For great results we recommend:
Ideal average spacing between glass panels should be 40-60mm
SS-SPIGOT-999 is 240mm length leaving 150mm above concrete level
Core hole to be 65mm diameter, 120-140mm depth, Check "Intallation Guide"
Spigots are clamped to the glass first at 150mm (centres) from panel edges
Pour non-shrink grout (BOSTIK TECHFLOW-HES) 2-3 holes at a time
Glass to glass gate openings should be 850mm, 900mm, or 950mm
Pre-drilled Hinge Panels available. See "Toughened Glass Price List"
Latch Panels don't require holes using a "Friction-Grip Side-Pull Latch'
Hydraulic "Soft-Close" hinges now available - Please call for more info!

INSTRUCTIONS FOR FRAMELESS GLASS INSTALLATION:

Step 1 - Set out

The set out of your fence is the first and most important step to ensure the fence fits correctly.
1. Firstly measure your area and draw your proposed plan on paper first.
2. Mark the centreline of your fence on the concrete or timber surface.
3. Stretch a chalk line between marks parallel with the outside edge of your slab or deck, generally we
allow 100mm from edge to avoid chipping or breaking of edges when core drilling. 100mm in for
edge will be you centreline of glass.
4. Pull the chalk line tight and flick the line.
5. Mark the panel lengths with a pencil over the chalk line and also mark the gaps between the panels.
6. Place the spigots 150mm to centre in from the edge of panels.

For Example - if a glass panel is 1000mm wide the spigot breakdown is 125mm in from the edge of
the glass to the face of spigot. Leaving 650mm between the centres of the two spigots.

NOTE: It is a good idea to check all measurements twice. All measurements should be with within a
working tolerance of +/- 2mm.

1. This position represents the centre of your core hole or the centre of your base plate spigot.
2. Find the centre of the gate position and mark with a pencil. The gate opening for standard spring
hinge gate is 850mm. Actual gate size being 834mm allowing 16mm for hinges and latch.
3. You are now ready to core drill your holes or pilot hole for spigots fixed to decking.

Step 2 - Core Drilling

1. When your fence is to be fixed to a concrete substrate we recommend using a core drilled spigot to
provide ultimate strength and ease of installation, providing a much stronger fixing than based
mounted fixing and aesthetically more appealing.
2. Using a core drill is pretty simple, simply select your size core bit, we recommend 75mm diameter
core bit for square spigots and 65mm to suit round spigots. Read the instructions supplied from you
local equipment hire provider before starting. A little trade tip is to use a piece of ply timber about
20mm thick. Make a guide hole through the timber using the core drill the same size. When you start
each core hole use the guide to mark the holes and to start the hole to a depth of APR 10mm. Then
remove the guide and start core drilling. REMEMBER always use water when core drilling.
3. Drill a maximum of 200mm into concrete; generally 130mm - 180mm from top of tile to bottom of
holes is perfect. DO NOT put too much downwards pressure on the core dill.
4. Break the concrete core using a hammer and a large flat headed screw driver making sure you do
not chip any pavers or tiles.
5.

Pull the concrete cores out of the hole. You may also need a small jack hammer to break away any
concrete or reinforcing steel protruding into the finished core drill position.

6. Wash away any concrete slurry; we have found a wet/dry vacuum works best to clean water and
slurry from area.
7. You are now ready to stand up your fence. The standard height panels are all 1200mm high so you
know you will always comply.

Step 3 Attaching Spigots to Glass

1. Place two timber blocks next to a solid wall. Place the glass upside down (you can tell this by the
compliance stamp in the bottom corner of the glass. Always ensure compliance stamps are placed at
the bottom of all panels and preferably facing the same way either all left or all right once panels are
in position.
2. Mark the bottom edge of the glass with a fine felt tipped pen at 125mm. This mark will represent the
outside face of your spigot.
3. Depending on your chosen spigot you will approach the next step in relation to your application.
SOLID BODY PREMIUM SPIGOT INSTALLATION
To fit the premium solid body spigot remove the plastic package positioned within the throat
of the spigot and remove the steel pressure plate and rubber gasket. Position the rubber
gasket along side the mark you have placed on the panel previously. Ensure the two worm
screws are loose and not protruding into the throat of the spigot. Carefully slide the spigot
over the glass

Remember to face the worm screws to your desired side of the fence line.

Carefully slide the spigot over the glass and gasket until the base of the spigot throat rests
on the bottom edge of your glass panel. Position the spigot tight against the glass and the
internal wall of the spigot that does not house the worm screws. In the void left between
the gasket and the internal wall of the spigot position the steel pressure plate. You may need
to slightly stretch the rubber gasket to momentarily increase the dimension between the
rubber gasket and internal wall of the spigot to allow the pressure plate to position properly.

Once the pressure plate is correctly positioned, the spigot is square to glass and correctly
aligned with the outline of the spigot body tighten the worm screws. Do not over tighten.
You have now successfully fitted your spigot. Repeat.
CAST CONSTRUCTION SPIGOT INSTALLATION
To fit the cast construction spigots remove the plastic gasket and pressure plate within the
throat of the spigot. Fit the steel pressure plate into the recess in the plastic gasket and refit
within the allocated recess in the throat of the spigot. Ensure the two worm screws are
loose and not protruding into the throat of the spigot.

Remember to face the worm screws to your desired side of the fence line.

Carefully slide the spigot over the glass until the base of the spigot throat rests on the
bottom edge of your glass panel.

Ensure the spigot is square to the glass and tighten the worm screws. Do not over tighten.
You have now successfully fitted your spigot. Repeat.

Step 4 - Standing up your glass

1. Once you have both spigots properly attached to your glass panel, Place the dress ring upside down
over spigot. Tape dress ring to the glass so it doesn't slide down when placing panel in position.
2. Turn the panel over so the spigots are facing the ground.
3. Slowly walk panel in to position. This is two man job.
4. Lower the spigots into the already cored out holes and place the bottom of the glass on the blocks
already set up. Level and plumb glass and secure in position with adequate bracing to allow the
panel to be self supporting.
5. Once first panel is secure, repeat the above process with the next panel. Clamp both panels together
between the gaps at the bottom and top of each panel using 200mm timbers screwed together as
shown in pictures.
6. Measure your spacings between panels are correct as you go, remembering to check heights and
adjust accordingly.
7. Use two clamps per panel, top and bottom. Place the top one level with the top of the glass and use
this to screw timber stay too.
8. Make sure all panels are plumb and level as you go, using timber braces to secure each panel
perfectly in position. You will need a timber brace for at least every second panel.
9. Use bricks, pavers or sand bags to put weight on the stays so the fence will not move.
10. TRADESMAN TIP: Once you think your fence is perfectly positioned use a string line to check final
accuracy. Place the string at the top of the fence in the centre of the 12mm glass, pull string tight to
the over end of the fence line. Place this end in the centre of the 12mm glass also. If the fence is
perfectly straight, the string line will run perfectly through the centre of the glass. If not adjust
accordingly.

Step 5 - Grouting the holes

1. Once your fence is perfect position and secured correctly you are now ready to grout the core holes.
2. We recommend BOSTIK TECKFLOW HES non-shrink structural grout.
3. Read instructions on mixing properly and mix to flow able liquid in accordance with manufacturers
directions.
4. Using a small open spouted watering vessel, slowly pour the grout into the holes (ensuring all holes
are filled level with finished floor level to avoid water pooling within under filled cores). Take care
and proceed very slowly as it is very easy to over pour and make a mess (clean any spills immediately
particularly on highly porous surfaces).
5. Fill all holes.
6. Allow a minimum of 24 hours for grout to fully set.
7. After 24 hours, check grout is hard with a screw driver. If any need topping up again, do so now.
8. Remove all timber blocks and stays.

Step 6 - Fitting the gate

1. Under AS1926.1-2007, the gate must open away from the pool.
2. Fit the latch to the gate panel.
3. Attach the hinges to the gate, put two 50mm packers underneath the gate and carry into position,
sitting the gate on the packers.
4. If you have chosen our premium soft close gate hinges please refer the supplied installation
instructions.
5. Fit the hinges to hinge panel.
6. Adjust spring pin as required

Step 7 - Clean and admire

1. Give your new frameless glass pool fence a clean with warm water and car wash ideally containing a
liquid wax/polish.
2. Stand back and admire your work!!!
