Introduction:
The power of effective written communication can contribute
significantly to organizational productivity, efficiency and success in
todays rapidly changing business world. Business professionals
need excellent writing skills to properly convey ideas and concepts.
Needless to say, discreet, concise and self-explanatory messages
communicated across the company can be productive in saving time
and in achieving desired results. Additionally, good writing adds to
the credibility of the writer and reflects positively on a companys
image. Effective writing has a strong correlation with good reading
habits. Extensive reading enables to comprehend ideas, follow
arguments and detect implications of the written communication.
Evidently, writing skills tempered by intrinsic reading habit is the
requirement of the managers to communicate quickly and
professionally.
The course Managerial Communication - II is intended to meet the
demand of professional writing by inculcating in the students,
effective reading and writing skills.
Course Objectives:
The objectives of the course, Managerial Communication II aims to
develop communication strategies in different situations. While
doing so, special attention is given to develop business writing
ability by acquiring skills in objective or non-personal writing such as
business letters, memos, emails, status reports, business reports
and proposals. The focus is also on honing the oral presentation
skills while making business presentations.
Course Learning Outcomes (CLO):

At the end of this course, the students will be able to:


develop strategies for planning professional and technical
documents [CLO 1]

draft and revise professional and technical documents [CLO 2]

identify and apply rhetorical strategies to text [CLO 3]

present ideas and information in a proficient and audible


manner [CLO 4]

use multimedia and visual aids during oral presentation,


appropriately [CLO 5]

Course Content:
The course would cover the following broad areas:
Effective communication strategy
Business Writing: E-mail, Memo, Letters, and Reports
Oral Presentation
Prescribed Text Book:
Lehman, C.M., DuFrene, D.D., Sinha, M. (2012), BCOM (2nd edition),
New Delhi: Cengage Learning.
Policy on Plagiarism:
Any student who indulges in plagiarism or in abetting the same by
giving his/her assignment to others will be severely punished. The
concerned faculty will decide the punishment on a case-to-case
basis. The punishment for those involved in plagiarism could be any
of these: a) valuation of zero; b) Negative marks; c) sub-grade.
