Submission of assignments

A major step to the successful completion of your Industrial Project IV is the appointment of
your mentor. You are responsible for appointing your own mentor according to the
guidelines given in the study guide. You must submit (the attached form with your mentors
details and study field.
16 April 2016

If you registered between December 2015 and March 2016

Your mentor may be contacted and interviewed to determine his suitability. Care should
thus be taken with this appointment. Your reports must be signed by your mentor before
sending them to UNISA.

Should we not approve of your mentor or study field, you will be asked to make another
appointment or define another field of study.

Assignments
For INDUSTRAL PROJECT IV, you are required to correspond with UNISA as
follows:
1.

Mentor appointment and Study Field Definition Form (Typed 300 word
overview of your project)

2.

Progress report 1 - Theoretical study and problem definition

3.

Progress report 2 - Conceptual Study and allocation of a Title

4.

Progress report 3 - Detailed Design

5.
Progress report 4 - Experimental Evaluation (Will count 30% of the final
mark)
6.

Final Report (Bound copy including power Point presentation)

Submission of the mentor appointment and Study Field Definition, allows you
to hand in the rest of your reports.

Ensure that you understand this principle.

Failure to submit the mentor
appointment and Study Field Definition by the due date, will result in you being
barred from continuing with the rest of the subject. and you will have to reregister. If
in doubt, contact your lecturer before the submission date!!!!

Refer to the report writing guidelines in the study guide before writing your
reports.
ALL FOUR PROGRESS REPORTS ARE COMPULSORY, and your year mark will
be based on them as follows:
STUDY FIELD DEFINITION FORM + REPORT 1 + REPORT 2 + REPORT 3 + REPORT 4
YEAR MARK =
5

It is clear that you have to submit ALL reports to gain a satisfactory year mark.
*
Complete the assignment cover fully and CORRECTLY.
*
Make sure that all the papers of the report are stapled together.
*
KEEP A COPY OF YOUR REPORT. This is important as reports get lost in
the mail.
Your year mark will only make up 10% of your final mark, but you should get at least
50% for your year mark in order to be allowed to submit your final report.

10

IPR4701/101
Plan your programme so that your correspondence can reach the UNISA before or
on the set dates:
The final report serves as the basis for your examination. It will be evaluated by your
UNISA supervisor and a moderator in accordance with the evaluation criteria as set
out in the study guide after which a preliminary mark will be given.
The oral presentation will be a presentation lasting between 30 and 45 minutes. The
examination panel will consist of your mentor and either one or both an examiner and
a moderator. This examination will take place in any one of the major centres of the
country at a mutually acceptable time and place. Questions will centre around your
particular design project including the design philosophy behind your design. A final
examination mark will be decided upon by the panel at the conclusion of the oral
examination.
Your final mark for the subject will consist of 10% of your year mark and 90% of your
examination mark.
Your final report must be compiled as follows:
You need to submit 2 bound copies and a presentation (on CD) via the assignment
section. Presentations will only be arranged once your UNISA marker has approved
your final report. Remember to sign the declaration of own work and that your mentor
signs off your work. If you do not have your UNISA supervisors contact details
contact Ms L Visser on 011 471 2854 or lvisser@unisa.ac.za.
Include the following in your bound copies (on 1 page)
Contact details:
Name: Surname:
Student No:
Subject Code:
Can you graduate at the end of this year if you pass all the Modules you have registered
for? Yes/no
If yes at which institution

LIST THEORY SUBJECTS KNOWLEDGE THAT WILL BE APPLIED IN YOUR

PROJECT
Your powerpoint presentations should include:
On overview of your project
Photos and/or videos
Specify your work done
Which subjects theory was applied in your project
Problems encountered
11

NB! How many hours did you spend on the project and how was this spent.

Industrial Project 4 needs at least 360 hours.

Thanks for all the interesting projects. They are being marked by subject specialists.

Please note: If you qualify from another institution, a lecturer from that
institution must be involved as a moderator for your project. You have to
contact the institution from which you will receive your qualification, to
moderate and sign off your final report.
