THW Legalize Abortion

Definition:
Abortion: Abortion is the ending of pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo from
the uterus before it can survive on its own. An abortion which occurs spontaneously
is also known as a miscarriage, and the one caused purposely is called an induced
abortion. Modern methods use medication or surgery for abortions.
Affirmative:
When allowed by local law, abortion in the developed world is one of the safest
procedures in medicine. When performed legally and safely, induced abortions do not
increase the risk of long-term mental or physical problems. In contrast, unsafe
abortions cause 47,000 deaths and 5 million hospital admissions each year. The
World Health Organization recommends safe and legal abortions to be available to
all women.
Status Quo:
The society is divided with different opinion towards abortion; those who supports the
existence of abortion, and those who go against it. Those who favor the legality of
abortion often hold that a woman has a right to make decisions about her own body.
On the other side, those who are against abortion often maintain that an embryo or
fetus is a human with a right to life and may compare abortion to murder.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) abortion rates being similar in
countries where the procedure is legal and in countries where it is not, due to
unavailability of modern contraceptives in areas where abortion is illegal. They also
recommend safe and legal abortions to be available to all women.
World Health Organization recommends safe and legal abortions to be available to
all women.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations
(UN) that is concerned with international public health. It has played a leading role in
the eradication of smallpox. The WHO is also responsible for the World Health
Report, a leading international publication on health, the worldwide World Health
Survey, and World Health Day (7 April of every year).
Mechanism
The government will only legalize abortion restricted to cases of maternal life, health, mental
health, rape, fetal defects, and/or socioeconomic factors. Secondly, in order to prevent the
misusage/misinterpretation of abortion, the government will put a limit to the practice, in
which late-term abortions, an induced ending of pregnancy after the 16th week of gestation,
would not be tolerated. Before the abortion is executed, the government will conduct a
research on the requester to determine whether or not the reason of the request for abortion
is true.
Argumentation
Affirmative:

Guarantees more safety comparing to conducting it illegally.

Legalizing abortion will guarantee better and safer abortion process for the mother, in
which licensed doctor specialized in abortion would be possible to exist. If abortion is
still illegal, the society will must consult uncertified abortion, which wont guarantee
the capability of the doctor in doing the abortion, or if the person practicing it even a
doctor at all. As previously mentioned, the World Health Organization has
recommended safe and legal abortions to be available to all women for the same
reason.
Abortion is often advised or needed for certain cases.
Maternal life, health, mental health, rape, fetal defects, and socioeconomic factors
are some of the most frequent cases of a woman to request an abortion of its fetus.
Those reasons are also requiring abortion for a greater good for the mother and/or
the fetus itself. For example, a rape victim would never wish to keep and raise the
child of the man that raped her. A family with financial problem would not be able to
raise their child at their current state. A case where the matter is life and death for the
mother to give birth because of medical issues will also require an abortion to save
the mothers live. And fetal defects that would leave the child to be disabled would
just make the child devastated with his/her condition and negatively impact greatly its
future life, for he/she wont be able to do many things that others can. This is why
abortion is needed or advised in those cases. Not only that, the practice of abortion
may be needed by the government to regulate its citizens on current or upcoming
regulations, such as family planning and birth control which may be needed to deal
with population boom.
There are many movements supporting the legalization of abortion.
Major part of the society, mostly which are feminist, supports abortion-rights
movement. They often hold that a woman has a right to make decisions about her
own body, which is true. Medically speaking, a fetus under the 16th week of gestation
isnt well developed yet, nor could it survive independently. Thus, it could be
concluded that it has no life yet, referring that fetus still being as a part of the
pregnant woman, which she has rights on making decisions for her own body part.
With the demand of the legalization of abortion by the society, the government will
also gain sympathy from the society for being in the same boat, thus guarantees
them to cooperate with the government and gain their trust for future projects and
actions made by the government.
Negative:
Heavily unacceptable by most culture and society
Abortion is heavily disagreed by many cultures and major religions, meaning those
who adopt those cultures or have that belief is most likely to also disagree on the
practice, especially those who are religious. They believe that an embryo or fetus is a
human with a right to life and may compare abortion to murder. If the government
went against them and still continues to try to legalize abortion in a country where
abortion is still consider as a taboo by its people, this will create a major uproar by
those who are against abortion.
Violates the right of living

Being unconscious for the time being is no excuse for a fetus to be neglected in
determining its fate. Abortion is completely decided by the mother and/or the people
around her, such as her partner. The fetus opinion isnt concerned, even though its
life is the one in question. If the fetus is able to grasp the situation it is in, obviously it
would choose to live. This is why abortion violates fetal rights of living and must not
be legalized unless it is a must for a greater good for the fetus and the mother.
Creates an era of discrimination towards the imperfect ones
Negative eugenics movement is a set of beliefs and practices that aims at improving
the genetic quality of the human population by reducing rates of sexual reproduction
and sterilization of people with less-desired or undesired traits. This is a straight
forward discrimination for those who are considered with undesired trait and is the
same thing as saying that they are undesired by the human race. This is one of the
worst kind of discrimination, for this will just leave these undesired ones to feel that
they were better off not born, since they are thrown away by their own race and given
almost no place for their future generations. Abortion is the practice that could aid
eugenics movement to achieve their goal: the creation of perfect human beings with
no disability. Legalizing abortion would make this movement viral. They would abort
fetus with fetal defects, or even force people to do so for their own reasons in order
to create a better generation. This is why legalizing abortion would create an era of
discrimination.
