Introduction
Kent Youth Service encourages all young people regardless of race, gender, disability or sexual orientation to become involved
and enjoy the large variety of activities and educational programmes on offer through our network of youth centres. The Youth
Service believes the key purpose of youth work to be To work with young people to facilitate their personal, social and
educational development, and to enable them to gain a voice, influence and place in society (National Occupational Standards)
based on core values of equality and diversity, participation, empowerment, fun and informal education to support young
peoples social and personal development.
Good youth work programmes should be based on the principles of PLAN DO REVIEW in a NAOMIE cycle that looks at needs,
aims & objectives, methods, implementation and evaluation a proposed curriculum development cycle model can be found
below. You can also think of PLAN DO REVIEW in terms of the ladder of participation:
REVIEW: Celebrate & review
REVIEW: Young peoples evaluation
DO: Execute & review
DO: Plan a programme with young people
PLAN: Discuss targets & goals with young people
PLAN: Discuss resources
PLAN: Find out what young people want to do
PLAN: Get to know young people

Not only does your bedroom smell of sweaty socks and old farts, it probably contains enough chemicals to stock a lab and
uses enough energy to run a small country. In other words, youre not exactly the eco warrior type and your bedroom has a
minus rating on the green scale. Maybe you could start with a couple of houseplants and a nice thick duvet?
If you answered mainly Bs
You do try to be green by putting things on standby (when you remember) but youre more of an accidental green which
means youre probably like most of us, doing eco stuff when we remember or have the time. But keep trying and youll only
get greener!
If you answered mainly Cs
Theres nothing you dont know about being green and running an eco bedroom. If only there were more like you! But are
you applying all those principles outside your bedroom? If yes, then give yourself a big green star if not, why dont you
start with some reusing and recycling around the rest of the house?

natural fabrics
Make sure wooden furniture comes from sustainable
sources
If you cant afford a new sofa then buy a secondhand

Bleached cotton can be intensively farmed and uses a lot
of chemicals so try a natural alternative like kapok or
organic cotton
Same as above make sure your bedding is from a
natural material try bamboo!
Make sure your bed is made from a sustainable material
and you have an eco mattress
If you have an ugly old cupboard why not reuse it as
useful storage and give it a coat of eco friendly paint?
If you have DVDs, games machines and other gadgets
under your TV, make sure you switch them off & unplug
when not in use
