I. Learning Competency:
At the end of the lesson learners are expected to:
Describe the horizontal and vertical motions of a projectile
Code: S9FE-IVa-34
II. Specific Objectives:

Identify the parts of a Projectile motion

Describe the vertical and horizontal motion

Appreciate the importance of Projectile motion

III. Content and Materials:

A.TOPIC: Projectile Motion
B. Materials:
Manila papers, markers, eraser and ball.
C. Science Concepts:
Projectile motion is the motion of a body following a curved path. And object in
projectile motion is called projectile. The path that the projectile follows is called the
trajectory. The peak of the trajectory is the highest point that the projectile could each
during its motion. The horizontal displacement of the projectile is called range.

The horizontal velocity of a projectile is constant

(a never changing in value)
There is a vertical acceleration caused by gravity; its value is 9.8 m/s/s, down
The vertical velocity of a projectile changes by 9.8 m/s each second
The horizontal motion of a projectile is independent of its vertical motion

IV. Learning Tasks:

A. Routinary Activity:
Prayer
Greetings
Checking of Attendance
Practice Test
Direction: Choose the letter of the correct answer.
1. The acceleration due to gravity is equal to _______________?
a) 9.8 m/s2 downward
b) 9.8 m/s
c) 9.8 m/s2

d) 9.8 km/s2

2. He believes that heavier objects fall faster than lighter ones.

a) Plato
b) Aristotle
c) Galileo
d) Einstein
3. He hypothesized that two objects would fall at the same rate regardless of their
mass.
a) Plato
b) Aristotle
c) Galileo
d) Einstein
4. If air resistance is disregarded, all objects dropped near the surface of a planet fall
with the same constant acceleration. This statement explains ____________?
a) Free Fall
b) Acceleration
c) Projectile Motion
d) Trajectory
5. Vargas drops two different objects at the same time. The first object is a 5 kg of
stone and the second object is a 1 kg of cotton. Which object hits the floor first if
there is no air resistance?
a) The 5 kg stone will hit the ground first.
b) The 1 kg cotton will hit the ground first.
c) Both stone and cotton will hit the ground.
d) The 5 kg stone then to be followed by 1 kg cotton.
B. Motivation: Throw a Ball
Illustrate a boy throwing a ball and let them draw an imaginary line for the path of
motion of an object. After they draw, ask them how they describe the path of an
object.

C. LESSON PROPER:
Concept Introduction: A projectile is an object upon which the only force acting is
gravity. There are a variety of examples of projectiles. An object dropped from rest
is a projectile (provided that the influence of air resistance is negligible). An object
that is thrown vertically upward is also a projectile (provided that the influence of air
resistance is negligible). And an object which is thrown upward at an angle to the
horizontal is also a projectile (provided that the influence of air resistance is
ANSWER: Moonwalk, Putatan, Country Homes,
negligible). A projectile is any object that once projected or dropped continues in
Sucat
motion by its own inertia and is influenced only by the downward force of gravity.
1. Pre-Activity
1. Do the Groupings
2. Give instructions
3. Distribution of materials
2. Activity proper: IDENTI-FLY
The purpose of this activity is to allow students to identify the terms used in
describing projectile motion.
Direction: Read and label the illustration
Projectile motion is the motion of a body following a curved path. And object in

the trajectory. The peak of the trajectory is the highest point that the projectile
could each during its motion. The horizontal displacement of the projectile is called
range.

3. Post activity
Each groups have 3 minutes each for presentation of the group outputs.
D. Generalization:
After the presentation of each group, the teacher will check if there are
misconceptions and reinforce information if it is not clear.
Introduce the Components of Horizontal and Vertical Velocity and Displacement of
Projectile.
V. Assessment/Agreement:
Direction: Choose the letter of the correct answer.
1) A motion of a body following a curved __________?
a) Projectile Motion
b) Projectile
c) Trajectile
d) Projection
2) The horizontal displacement of the projectile is ___________?
a) Motion
b) Range
c) Peak
d) Projectile
3) It is the highest point that the projectile could reach during its motion
a) Projectile
b) Tragic
c) Peak
d) Range
4) It is the path that the projectile follows
a) Peak
b) Motion
c) Projectile
d) Trajectory
5) An object in Projectile motion
