1. Explain briefly about frequency and amplitude stability of oscillators.

2. The frequency of oscillation of a Colpitts oscillator is given by, fo=1/[2π{(LC1C2)/


(C1+C2)}1/2]. This circuit operates at 450 KHz with C1 = C2 what will be the
oscillation frequency if the value of C2 is doubled?

3. (a) A colpitts oscillator is designed with C1 = 100 PF and C2 = 7500 PF. The
inductance is variable. Find the range of inductance value, if the frequency of
oscillation is to vary between 950 KHz and 2050 KHz. (b) A Hartley oscillator is
designed with L2 = 20µH and a variable capacitance.Find the range of capacitance
values. If the frequency of oscillation is varied between 950 KHz to 2050 KHz.

5. (a) What is piezoelectric effect? Explain the working of crystal oscillator.

(b) A crystal oscillator has L=0.4H, C=0.085PF and Mounting capacitance CM =1PF
with R=5kΩ. Find series and parallel resonant frequencies. By what percent does
the parallel resonant frequency exceed the series resonant frequency? Also find
the Q-factor of the crystal.

6. (a) Show that the gain of Wien bridge oscillator using BJT amplifier must be at
least 3 for the oscillations to occur.
(b) In a transistorized Hartley oscillator the two inductances are 2mH and 20µH
while the frequency is to be changed from 950KHZ to 2050KHZ. Calculate the range
over which the capacitor is to be varied.

7. (a) Draw the circuit diagram of a RC phases shift oscillator using BJT. Derive the
expression for frequency of oscillators.
(b) Classify different type of oscillators based on frequency range.
(c) Why RC oscillators are not suitable for high frequency applications.

8. Explain the operation of a transistorized Wein-bridge oscillator with the help of neat
circuit diagram. How is amplitude stability achieved in this circuit?

9. Prove that the feedback ‘β’ of the phase shift network is given by

10. Draw a neat circuit diagram of RC phase shift oscillator using BJT and explain its
working principle.

11. (a) Define:

(b) Why an LC tank circuit, once excited, does not produce sustained
oscillation? Explain it briefly?
(c) Give the two Barkhausen condition required for sinusoidal oscillations to
be sustained.
(d) What are the factors which affect the frequency stability of an oscillator?
