PETRECO HYDROMATION Nut Shell Filter

WATER

Proven efficient separation systems

High throughout nut shell filters for purification of oily process water and industrial wastewater.

Overview

Benefits and Advantages

The PETRECO HYDROMATION Nut Shell Filters, from

Camerons Process Systems Division, are down flow, deep
bed, walnut shell media filters, designed for produced water
filtration. As the liquid passes through the media bed, oil and
solids are efficiently retained in the bed, and can then be
easily backwashed out of the media bed with the patented,
rotating media scrubbing assembly. This backwash assembly
is the best technology available for fluidizing the media bed
and allows the manufacture of large flow horizontal units
(as shown below). No chemicals, surfactants, or air sparging
cycles are required for the backwash.

Operating Principle and Key Features

In oil fields, PETRECO HYDROMATION Nut Shell Filters are
used to remove suspended solids and hydrocarbons from
produced water, surface water, sea water, river, lake, and
well water. In metal working, power generation, municipal,
chemical and petrochemical applications, they treat and
remove suspended solids, oily residues, ash, and metallic
hydroxides from industrial liquids.

Performance
Under normal operating conditions, they remove 95
to 99% of suspended solids and 90 to 99% of insoluble
hydrocarbons, without the use of chemicals.

Product Range
Single filtration units are available up to 175,000 BWPD (1130
m3/hr). PETRECO HYDROMATION Nut Shell Filtration Systems
give double the throughput of conventional deep bed sand
or graded mixed-media filters.

Proven reliable experience with many units operating

worldwide in a wide variety of applications
Media scrubbing cycle prevents filter bed fouling
Energy efficient - high mixer efficiency minimizes
energy consumption during backwash cycle
Reduced operating, maintenance, and downtime costs
Media scrubber generates a minimum of 40,000 GPM
(9085 m3/h) of pumping shear rate with only a small
horsepower motor
Feed water is used for backwashing
Media is not ground up in a pump, so less than 5%
per year of media attrition is guaranteed
Back-flush volume is typically 0.5 -1% of throughput
so waste volume is minimized
Greater than 99% annualized online performance
Effluent concentrations down to non-detectable limits
of suspended oil and solid
