ADDITIONAL STUDY LEAVE TO ASSISTANT LECTURERS / LECTURERS


(PROBATIONARY/SENIOR LECTURERS,. GRADE II )
Having conaidared the recommendation of the Committee of ViceChancellors and Directors (CVCD), the University Grants Commission has
decided to grant an additional period of six months full-pay study leave to
Aasistant Lecturers/Lecturers (Probationary), who go to non-English speaking
countries for their postgraduate degrees, where it is a requirement that such
teachers should obtain, proficiency in the language of that country before
pursuing their postgraduate studies. This period of study leave should be
granted in addition to the length of study leave presently available to such
teachers as per Commission Circular No.88 of 10th July 1980. However, they
should produce documentary evidence regarding the need for gaining
proficiency in the language of fhe country form the, Supervisor concerned.
The Commission has also decided to extend this concession to teachers who
go a broad to read for a Doctor's degree after having been confirmed in the
post and promoted to the grade of Senior Lecturer, Grade II on the basis of
the postgraduate qualifications Obtained locally. The leave granted will be on
the same conditions as for Assistant Lecturers/Lecturers(Probationary)
explained above.
The Circular is effective as from 1st August 1990.

GRANTING OF STUDY LEAVE TO TEACHERS ON PROBATION

Your attention is drawn to the following : (1) Paragraph 5(a) of Commission Circular No.88 of 10th July 1980,
(2) Paragraph 2(b) of Commission Circular No.178 of 16th June 1982,
(3) Establishments Circular Letter No. 20/1982 of 13th September 1982,
The Commission, having reviewed the present criteria of granting study
leave to teachers on problem, at its 289th meeting held on 1st February
1990, decided to delegate authority to councils of Universities to use their
discretion and be responsible for the timing of granting study leave to
teachers on probation.
The provisions of this Circular takes effect immediately.
