The WA603SE is an indoor access point (AP) in a WLAN that complies with IEEE 802.11b/g/n
standards. It features high reliability, strict security, distinctive protection, easy network deployment,
automatic going-online and configuration, and real-time management and maintenance. The
WA603SE are applicable to open wireless networks featuring simple building structure, small signal
coverage, dense users, and plentiful capacity demands, especially the WLANs in hotels, airports,
schools, and small- and medium-sized enterprises.
The WA603SE has the following advantages in a WLAN:
z

Flexible switching between Fit and Fat AP modes

The following table lists the major differences in the Fit and Fat AP network topologies.
Item

Fat AP Network Topology

Fit AP Network Topology

Application
scope

Traditional enterprise networks

Security

Low security, adopting traditional

encryption and authentication modes

High security, monitoring the ambient RF

conditions and providing security policies
based on user location

Network
management

Each AP must be configured

separately.

The AC allows for bulk configuration for

APs, thus requiring zero configuration on
an AP.

User
management

Rights are differentiated according to

the wired ports to which APs connect.

The wireless virtual mode is adopted and in

this way, rights are differentiated flexibly
according to the user name.

Network scale

The WA603SE working in Fat AP

mode supports the layer 2 roaming
and is applicable to small-scale
network topologies.

The WA603SE working in Fit AP mode

supports the layer 2 roaming, independent
of network topology, and is applicable to
large-scale network topologies.

Value-added
Services
Capability

Simple data access services are

provided.

Enriched services including the enhanced

voice service are provided.

WLAN (achieving dynamic network

management and optimizing operations
and maintenance)

When starting up, the WA603SE selects one of the following mode to enter:
Forced Fit mode: After starting up, the WA603SE enters the Fit mode and is managed by the AC.
Through the AC, the WA603SE can switch from the Fit mode to the Fat mode or automatic mode.
Forced Fat mode: After starting up, the WA603SE enters the Fat mode and manages itself
autonomously. Through the NMS, the WA603SE can switch from the Fat mode to the Fit mode or
automatic mode.
Automatic (Auto) mode: After starting up, the WA603SE enters the auto mode. In this mode, the
WA603SE supports both the Fat and Fit mode and determines a Fat or Fit mode as its working
mode according to actual network conditions.
By default, the WA603SE works in the auto mode after starting up.

Strict network security

The WA603SE supports multiple authentication and encryption modes:

Wired equivalent privacy (WEP)
Wi-Fi protected access (WPA)/WPA2
Wireless LAN authentication and privacy infrastructure (WAPI)
802.1X
z

Superb environmental adaptability

The WA603SE has a built-in intelligent antenna which flexibly adapts to ambient RF conditions and
selects the best transmission path for radio signals. This eliminates the need for network deployment
and planning, mitigates interference in real time, and increases SNR, thereby improving transmission
throughput of the WLAN and speeding up access of end users.
In addition, the WA603SE is designed with the 4 kV lightning-proof protection and IP41 water-proof
protection and these designs highly secure transmission of radio signals.

Easy and intelligent equipment management and maintenance

When working in Fit AP mode, the WA603SE is managed by the AC and goes online automatically
after being powered on. It loads its configuration automatically from the AC and the relevant
authentication, data forwarding, AP management, security protocol, routing, and QoS are
implemented by the AC. The WA603SE also can be monitored through the NMS in real time. All these
features facilitate the management and maintenance of the WA603SE. In addition, the WA603SE
provides other prominent functions such as automatically adjusting channels and frequencies for end
users, quickly roaming without service interruption, and implementing load balancing.

Network Topology
Figure 1 shows the network topology in which the WA603SE works in Fat AP mode.
Figure 1 Network topology of the WA603SE working in Fat AP mode

In this network topology, the WA603SE, as a Fat AP, fully supports 802.11 functions. Each WA603SE
acts as an independent network entity for exclusive management including user access,
authentication, data forwarding, AP management, security protocol, routing, and QoS.

Figure 2 shows the network topology in which the WA603SE works in Fit AP mode.
Figure 2 Network topology of the WA603SE working in Fit AP mode

In the network topology, the WA603SE, as a Fit AP, supports only the bridge forwarding function and
the user access, AP going-online, authentication, routing, AP management, security protocol, and
QoS are implemented by the AC.
