MERGAL K14

Use

MERGAL K14 is an in-can preservative offering a broad spectrum of

activity against bacteria, yeast and fungi. It is fast acting and has an
excellent price performance ratio. The product is recommended for
polymer dispersions, dispersion latex paints, stucco, rheology modifiers,
adhesives, pigment pastes and other coating Systems. Reducing agents in
fairly small amounts degraduate Isothiazolinones rapidly.

0.1 0.3% for in-can preservation of emulsion polymers, paints,

Plasters, adhesives and other coating formulations.
The level necessary lo protect a formulation depends on the
composition of the formulation and the intended end-use
conditions. All suggested dosages should be evaluated prior to
commercialization for compatibility and Storage stability.

MERGAL K 14 meets recommendations XIV and XXXVI of the
German Federal Office of Consumer Safety (BgVV) and Swiss
Office of Health; BAG T No 611500; poison class 4.

Activity

MERGAL K 14 has a broad spectrum of activity against

bacteria, yeast, fungi and some algae.
The determination of the minimum inhibitory concentration
(MIC values) is an indication of the concentration level at which
growth of the test organism is completely inhibited under
laboratory conditions.

Mergal K 14 is toxic to fish and must not reach surface and
ground water.

Notes on processing
Mergal K 14 is a Iiquid product and may be added to the
production materials at any point during the manufacturing
process. For best results the product should be added as early in
the production process as possible. If high temperatures or
highly alkaline pH-values are expected during production, we
recommend that the product be added after these conditions are
controlled.
Proteins and strong reducing agents such as sulfites and sulfides
can inactivate the active ingredients in MERGAL K 14. For

preservation of systems containing these compounds other Troy

preservatives are recommended. Your Troy representative can
assist you with the selection of the appropriate in-can
preservative.
Safety measures

In its undiluted form MERGAL K 14 is a skin irritant. For

all handling, rubber gloves, face shield, goggles and
suitable protective clothing should be worn, Contact with
skin and inhalation of spray mists should be avoided.
In case of contact, immediately flush eyes or skin with plenty of
water for at least 15 minutes. For eyes, call a physician. Remove
and wash all contaminated clothing before reuse. See product

Storage

Keep container tightly closed and protected from heat and

freezing temperatures. Storage should not exceed one year.
