In this user guide I will be


demonstrating how to use various tools
on Photoshop CS4 I will be giving you
step by step instructions to edit and
manipulate an image on Photoshop. I
will be using this phot all the way
through as an example so you can see
the end result each time.
The image manipulating tools I will
demonstrating how to use include
blending modes, duo tones, history
brush, colour swatches, magic wand,
filters, transform, eraser, select, text,
eyedropper, flare clone stamp and colour balance.

INSERTING THE IMAGE

Open up Photoshop CS4


Click file then choose open
Click on an image
Press OK

BLENDING MODES
1. Add a new layer below the background
layer label it (LAYER 1)
2. Fill layer one with a white background
3. Change the blend mode of the layers to
luminosity

DUO TONES
1. Choose Image > Mode > Duotone.
2. Click Overprint Colours. ...
3. Click the colour swatch of the ink
combination that you want to adjust.
4. Select the desired colour in the
Colour Picker, and click OK.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you are
satisfied with the ink combination.

HISTORY BRUSH
1. Choose
image>adjustments>Desaturate
2. Click history brush located to the left
side of the screen
3. Choose size of brush
4. Move brush across area you want to
bring the colour on

COLOUR SWATCHES
1. Select swatches on the right
side of the screen
2. Click create new swatch
3. Select brush tool
4. Select new colours
5. Name the swatch
6. Click OK

MAGIC WAND
1. Select magic wand located on the
left side of the screen
2. Select all the points you would like to
remove
3.click CTRL J

FILTERS
1. Select filters at the top of your
screen
2. Choose filter gallery
3. Select and preview filters until you
find one you like

TRANSFORM
1. Duplicate layer name (layer 0)
2. Choose the rectangular marquee tool
3.click at the top of the image then with your
mouse still held down drag the rectangle down
and over so it covers the entire image
4.choose edit then select free transform
5. Rotate and/or minimize the image to your
liking
6. Then click CTRL+J then that image will be
copied into its own layer
7.click background layer>edit>desaturate

ERASER
1. Select the eraser on the left side
of your screen
2. Rub out the parts of the image
you would like to erase

SELECT (ALL TYPES)


1. Choose select which is located at the
top of your screen
2. Choose from any option that you see to
get whichever result you desire
3. Click OK

TEXT
1. Open the image
2. Left click on the back ground layer
then duplicate it
3. Label it layer 1
4. Create a new layer label it layer 2
5. Fill the new layer with white
6. Select the type tool then write
whatever word you like then enlarge the
text across the image
7. Then drag your text layer underneath
layer one
8. Left click on layer1 >create clipping
mask this will create the illusion that the

EYE DROPPER
1. Click the eyedropper tool
located on the menu on the left
side of your screen
2. Click a section in your image
where you like the colour and
the eyedropper will select.
3. Name the selection whatever
you please
4. Use the new colour for anything
e.g. a border

FLARE
1. Choose edit select render then lens
flare
2. Choose were you would like to
position the lens
3. Click OK
4. Click edit then undo lens flare
5. Create a new layer fill it with black
6. Select filter then click lens flares to
bring it back
7. Change the layer blend mode to
screen

CLONE STAMP
1. Select clone stamp tool located on
the menu to the left of your screen.
2. Hold down the alt key then click the
point you like to use as a sampling
point
3. Then click and draw where you
would like the cloned image to appear

COLOUR BALANCE
1. Select adjustments located to midway
down the screen on your right side
2. Select colour balance
3. Adjust the colours until to your liking

MOVE
1. Click the move tool that
is located on the menu
to the left of your screen
2. Click on the image then
drag it in any direction
you want it to go

GRADIENT MAP
1. Select gradient tool located at on the menu to the
left of your screen
2. Click in the centre of your image and then drag the
line up
3. This will be your end result

HAND TOOL
1. Double click on the hand tool to zoom in on an image
2. Click from the options actual pixels, fit screen, full screen
or print size

PAINT/GRADIENT
1. Click on the paint tool
2. Choose a colour
3. Click on the parts you want coloured
