Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Simon Peter reluctantly obeyed Jesus command to put out into deeper water for a
catch saying, Master, we worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your
command I will lower the nets. Peter along with James and John were then
astonished at the almost net breaking load of fish they caught. We may also be
astonished when we obey the Lord:

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord!

Mercy demands justice True mercy, the mercy God gives to us and teaches us,
demands justice, it demands that the poor find the way to be poor no longer, Pope

Francis notes. It asks us, the Church, us, the City of Rome, it asks the institutions
to ensure that no one ever again stand in need of a soup kitchen, of makeshift-lodging,
of a service of legal assistance in order to have his legitimate right recognized to live
and to work, to be fully a person. (Address to Jesuit Refugee Services, 9/10/13). In
your own life, and in your faith community, how do you work for justice? Do you
seek to address the root causes of problems that affect those who are
vulnerable?
325 Holy Hours were kept with Our Lord in Eucharistic adoration last week.
To visit the Blessed Sacrament is a proof of gratitude, an expression of love,
and a duty of adoration towards Christ our Lord. We are blessed to have
perpetual adoration here in our parish....but we cannot do it without you.
Please call Judy at 330-212-0926 if you can spend just one hour..

(Insert Graphic 2104-0008.tif) Our observance of Lent begins on Ash
Wednesday, February 10, it is not a Holy Day of Obligation but a day of fast and
abstinence for Catholics. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of
universal fast and abstinence. Fasting is obligatory for all who have completed their
18th year and have not yet reached their 60th year. Fasting allows a person to eat
one full meal. Two smaller meals may be taken, not to equal one full meal.
Abstinence (from meat) is obligatory for all who have reached their 14 th year. If
possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday
night) as the paschal fast to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and
to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his
Resurrection. Fridays in Lent are obligatory days of complete abstinence (from
meat) for all who have completed their 14th year.
