Kootenay Conservation Program

Kootenay Lake Local Conservation Fund (KLLCF)

Request for Proposals
The Kootenay Conservation Program (KCP) and Regional District of Central
Kootenay (RDCK) are seeking proposals for projects that will benefit
conservation in the rural areas around Kootenay Lake, specifically electoral
areas A, D, and E within the RDCK.
The purpose of the Fund is to provide local financial support for important
projects that will contribute to the conservation of our valuable natural
areas. Kootenay Lake Local Conservation Fund (KLLCF) funding is available
for conservation projects that result in the reduction to a known threat to
biodiversity. The themes for the Fund are water conservation, wildlife and
habitat conservation, and open space conservation.
Projects that are technically sound and effective, and provide value for
money through partnerships with other funders will be given priority.
Proponents must be a registered not-for-profit organization, First Nations
band, or local government. Unqualified groups or organizations may
partner with a qualified organization. A Technical Review Committee will
review project proposals and make recommendations to the RDCK for final
funding approval.
To apply for funding, go to www.kootenayconservation.ca and click on
the Kootenay Lake Local Conservation Fund tab. Review the Terms of
Reference paying particular attention to Section 8 Fund Design and then
apply using the application form provided.
The closing date for project submissions is 4:30 pm February 15, 2016.
Project proposals must be delivered by email to info@kootenayconservation.ca.
Technical Review Committee Members Expression of Interest
The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) in partnership with the
Kootenay Conservation Program (KCP) is seeking committee members for
their five-person Technical Review Committee to make recommendations
on allocating annual funding for conservation projects for the Kootenay
Lake Local Conservation Fund.
Term is for two years. Travel expenses will be covered for those who
require them. You do not need to live in the Kootenay Lake area to apply.
For more information please go to www.kootenayconservation.ca and
click on Local Conservation Fund.
To apply, please submit a resume and include a covering letter that
provides:
1. Contact information.
2. Area of technical expertise (water, fish, wildlife, habitat, or open
space and natural area conservation).
3. Any special or unique circumstances that you want us to consider.
Closing date for applications: 4:30 pm February 15, 2016
Applications can be emailed to info@kootenayconservation.ca.

a series of online training courses, eliminating the need

for teams to travel more than 200 km roundtrip weekly
to attend. Additionally, GLOWS program manager, Beth
Corven delivered more than 35 Arduino base kits to teams
throughout the region in the early weeks of December.
As a result, RoboGames 2016 is the largest, most diverse
event we have ever attempted to date.
Over 40 teams comprised of 74 youth from across the
region will be competing for the title of RoboGames
Champions.
Teams range from first time novices to veteran competitors. All will have the opportunity to compete in one or
more of the following events: Obstacle Course, Line Following Course, Robot Soccer 1 on 1, Special Trick Competition, and Robot Battles.
The goal of GLOWS is to promote science and technology learning among our young community members by
making science and technology fun, accessible and non
intimidating. Ultimately we hope that these youth will
incorporate scientific and technical learning into their
future education and career choices, enhancing community vitality and sustainability as our region moves into
the middle of the 21st century. Making technical learning
less intimidating is a crucial early step toward encouraging the regions young people to incorporate science and
technology in their future learning and career plans, thus
increasing the regions chances of retaining technical talent in the longer term.

Please meet Johnny, a 2 year old, 16 lb., friendly neutered

beagle cross. This guy is playful, loves his toys, and loves
attention and interaction. Johnny is working on his
leash training and doing well. He does need some more
training around jumping up. He loves his walks, and is
a medium energy dog. He is house and crate trained.
Johnny is being fostered in Castlegar; please call KAAP
at 250-551-1053 or visit www.kaap.ca/adopt for more
information and an application.
