ADIWIYATA, BUILDING KNOWLEDGE OF ENVIRONMENT

Abstract: Adiwiyata is a good place and an ideal which can be obtained all
science and norms and ethics that can be the basis for the creation of the welfare
of human life and headed to the ideals of sustainable development. The reason to
held Adiwiyata programs because the programs in Adiwiyata can rebuild the
damaged environment for development. Programs in Adiwiyata activities such as
making area-based development environment, energy saving policies, creating a
clean and healthy environment, applying the principle of 4R in the garbage which
will be discussed below, as well as the arrangement of green open space.

Adiwiyata is a good place and an ideal which can be obtained all science
and norms and ethics that can be the basis for the creation of the welfare of human
life and headed to the ideals of sustainable development. Development of
Adiwiyata implementing this program, have the programs that can support the
preservation of nature back. Nature conservation should not be damaged by the
construction because of the increasing population.
Basically human life depends on the state of the surrounding environment
in the form of natural resources. The main natural resources for humans are air,
water, and soil. Air is needed by humans to breathe, the water needed by humans
for living as well as the largest component of the human body, and the ground is
where the human to do a variety of activities. Water, air, and soil are needed in
large numbers with good quality. All that can be obtained when the environment is
in good shape.
A good and healthy environment would be achieved if human beings and
the environment are in a balanced condition. That is the existence of a beneficial
interaction between humans and the environment without damaging the other. But
in the present environment where life has suffered damage that could threaten
human life itself. The damage is because that many people who simply use it
without restoring it back.
REASON HELD ADIWIYATA PROGRAM
Reason held Adiwiyata programs because the programs in Adiwiyata can
rebuild the damaged environment for development. With the adiwiyata programs,
can encourage people to rebuild and develop the human resources that are aware

and concerned about the environment as a whole with all existing environmental
problems.
Programs in Adiwiyata itself are expected to be one source of learning
community by having the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviour, motivation
and commitment to individually and collectively. In the form of a community can
solve various environmental problems today and prevent the problem of pollution
and environmental damage.
Changes in behaviour towards environmentally friendly major impact on
sustainable development and the environment. To realize this awareness is not an
easy thing because consciousness is not only based on knowledge or
understanding of the information received, but more awareness is based on a
custom built.
Adiwiyata program has the goal of forming the character of the
community to care for the environment. Realising cultured environment and
raising public awareness care and cultured environment. Hopefully, if any awards,
it's only as a tool to promote the establishment of a civilized society wider
environment.
PROGRAMS OF ADIWIYATA
Adiwiyata can be realized smoothly and sustainably should have the
programs that support the implementation of Adiwiyata. With programs are
working to develop environmental sustainability. As such programs like making
area-based development environment, energy saving policies, creating a clean and
healthy environment, applying the principle of 4R in the garbage which will be
discussed below, as well as the arrangement of green open space.
First, make the area-based development environment means making it as
beautiful as possible and focused on the surrounding natural environment, does
not cause impacts that could lead to global warming. In addition, based
development environment is that people who use natural resources does not harm
the environment. For it in the management of natural resources need to pay
attention to the state of the environment so that the environment is not disturbed
ecosystem. Natural resources is a life support residents who need to be preserved,
because the need for such compliance will continue. To perform development by
utilizing and managing the natural resources it needs science and technology that
does not damage the ecosystem. In Adiwiyata should be regularly once a week or

twice a month to plant trees to keep the preservation of nature. In addition, to

prevent the reduction of the ozone layer is expected to reduce the use of air
conditioning society.
Second, make energy-saving policy, it is held as if still letting the
excessive energy consumption that would cause endless material energy supply in
the future. Therefore, before it happens, it can be prevented in advance. How to
save energy such as limiting electricity usage during the day, and use the lights as
needed when a room is exposed to sufficient sunlight it does not need to make use
of the lights.
Third, creating a clean and healthy environment, it is necessary in a
development. A clean and healthy environment means always throw garbage in
the trash, not in rivers that can lead to disaster. Moreover, burning of garbage that
pollutes the air so, we breathe unhealthy air. In this Adiwiyata program, to create a
clean and healthy environment is done by sorting garbage such as classifying
garbage sorting plastic, paper, and leaves or organic. In addition gutter clean-up
activities are also carried out to prevent the disease coming.
Fourth, the program applies the principle of the 4Rs on the trash, it aims to
reduce the garbage that was piled up in Indonesia. 4R or Reuse, Reduce, Recycle
and Replace is still the best way to manage and handle waste with various
problems. 4R system implementation or reuse, reduce, recycle and replace became
one of the waste management solutions in addition to process waste into compost
or utilizing waste into a source of electricity Precisely waste management system
with 4R (Reduce Reuse Recycle Replace) can be implemented by everyone in
their daily activities.
4R consists of reuse, reduce, recycle and replace. Reuse means reuse waste
that can still be used for the same function or other functions. Reduce means
reducing everything that resulted in the trash. Recycle means reworks) waste into
products or new products that are useful and replace carefully at the items we use
everyday.
Waste management system with 4R (Reduce Reuse Recycle Replace) can
be done by anyone, anytime (every day), anywhere, and at no charge. It takes only
a little time and our concern. Examples of such activities reuse of cloth napkins
instead of using tissue, using a battery that can be charged back, beverage bottles
used for cooking oil. Examples of such activities Reduce choose products with

recycled packaging, use a product that can be recharged. Examples of such

Recycle process waste paper into cardboard, organic waste into compost, garbage
plastic souvenirs. Replace and examples of activities such as replacing items that
can only be used once the goods are more durable, we replace plastic bags with a
basket when shopping, and do not use styrofoam because both these materials can
not be degraded naturally.
Fifth, the arrangement of green open space. In Adiwiyata program one of
the activities that are categorized in the arrangement of green open space is to
make rain water catchment wells. The benefits if we make rain water catchment
wells is as flood control, protect and improve the water quality of the soil,
reducing the rate of erosion and in the long term can give enough ground water
reserves. Simply put, the working principle of a catchment wells that store
(temporarily) rain water in the pit that deliberately, then the pitcher water will get
into the ground as water infiltration (infiltration). Water infiltration is further into
the ground water reserves.
BENEFITS ADIWIYATA PROGRAM
In undertaking a program must have a very large benefit. Benefits of the
program Adiwiyata is to increase efficiency in the operational implementation and
use of various resources, improve resource savings through reduced consumption
of resources and energy, improve the quality of the environment more comfortable
and conducive for humans, and can increase efforts to avoid various risks impact
negative environment in the future. Development using Adiwiyata program can
maintain the beauty of the environment and do not damage the environment.
CONCLUSION
Adiwiyata is a program that can support human life in preserving the
environment. Given this Adiwiyata, developments can not only damage the
environment, but also can preserve and improve the quality and quantity of the
environment. Work programs in this Adiwiyata can change societal attitudes to
solve various environmental problems today and prevent the problem of pollution
and environmental damage.
The programs in the Adiwiyata like making area-based development
environment means making it as beautiful as possible and focused on the
surrounding natural environment, does not cause impacts that could lead to global
warming. For example is tree planting activities with the routine and reduce the

use of air conditioning. The next program. make energy efficiency measures such
as limiting the use of electricity and harnessing solar system. Creating a clean and
healthy environment such as cleaning gutters is also done to prevent the disease
coming. Applying the principle of 4R in the garbage as recycling and reusing
containers that we can still use. The latter is the arrangement of green open spaces
such as making rain water catchment wells that can reduce the cause of the flood.
Thus, to restore a sustainable environment, clean, comfortable, and quality, do not
have to do big things to change. Enough with the behaviour of a small but regular
and sincere heart, we've been able to restore the environment as before.
