The

BrighCore
Manifesto
Brightcore project is aimed at reduction of energy consumption through intelligent monitoring and
deep control of all devices that are approachable by any known documented protocol (motors in
heating/cooling units, light control systems, activity monitoring sensors etc.).
It implies an expert system in the realm of software that caries energy consumption policies for the
building and can be used in extension for predictive analysis and trends' analysis aimed at further
reduction of energy costs for the building.
The beauty of our system is that it is completely open and vendor-agnostic, allowing for
establishing an unique monitoring and control approach, regardless of the current market condition
of closed and semi-closed subsystems imposed by brand manufacturers, trying to accumulate as
much of service contracts' monies as possible.
With our system, any building, any facility can be released from such a binding and usually
overpriced commitments in the same time allowing for a better and fully integrated grasp on all
the equipment installed.
As far as we know no such truly an open solution exists globally. Honeywell has developed
something similar in terms of the extent of control functions but their solution has not been
designed to be truly open and best fit with an expensive range of related Honeywell products.
We have been awarded the 1st prize for this innovation on a Frankfurt LonMark International fair in
2009 (when it was still just a workable concept in late alpha state of development).
In a mean time we added new features for direct communication of the system with regular
specialised ICT servers through Corelet structure; almost finish adding of BACnet protocol into
family of supported protocols. We add native support for Linux devices, so the core of the system
could work from small smart-phone devices to large servers. As well, we are in the process of
adding native support for Android applications. We developed two new specialized servers,
Permission Corelet which opened possibility of a BMS infrastructure integration into corporate
identity management through LDAP and Radius support, and the Alarm Corelet who support
alarming through E.mail, SMS, or any other form of today used service technology. As well we
developed the corresponding configuration interfaces. The web services model engine for
specialised ICT applications in successfully tested by Access Control application where the
corresponding hardware lives as common part of the BMS infrastructure and could share all
information with other devices in the network.

Modern BMS infrastructure is today one of the last islands which are not regularly hacked
situations, since the IP infrastructure is more and more used as a spine of BMS network the
security becomes serious problem. To solve that issue we strongly address it by usage of AES 256
real time encryption. Therefore, information flow through the network is encapsulated into military
level unbreakable envelope giving as possibility to expose media devices directly to the internet.
We need to finish the development of user-friendly interface, making dashboards easier to read,
reports more extensive, predictive analysis more accurate and Smart-phones' front end fully
operative (so the dashboard can be viewed and devices controlled over such a device.)
We have recently started a post-graduate development project with the Zagreb University, aimed at
advanced predictive analysis in energy trends of user areas, where the BrightCore framework will
be used to manage currently installed devices by mediating between the network and intelligent
simulation engine responsible for real time energy optimisation.
We have been developing a new an unique paradigm in monitoring and control of energy
consumption in buildings.
On a lower scale, the market consequences might be similar to the explosion of new technologies
and patterns of behaviour after the internet opened-up the realm of networking for PCs.
Envisioning that, we have also developed a new rapid application design framework allowing other
developers to jump on the wagon and start developing for the newly opened world of networked
devices' functionalities not having extensive knowledge of building automation protocols and
integration procedures, but in same time through the framework having very deep understanding of
the infrastructure, devices operations and interaction at the machine to machine level, and all that
using similar object data model regardless of infrastructure supported protocols.
Not log ago, computers could speak to each other only if they were coming from the same brand or
set of technologies (Apple had their own network protocol, pc world another, IBM had their unique
system etc.). It was effectively choking the growth that really started when an open communication
was possible for computers by means of the omnipresent Internet!
We have made it possible for all other devices, motors, light control units etc. and sincerely believe
that such a concept would make great thing possible, allowing for creation of technologies and
solutions we can't even imagine at this moment...
We hope that other people - users, scientists, politicians, businessmen and developers - would
share this vision and stand behind the idea in every possible way. We can all together make great
advancements in the world of building automation and facilities' management possible!
