A RATHER novel and most unusual

marriage proposal that took place
recently involved a truck, a staged
kidnap and a number of really
good friends.
Tommi Choo, an information
technology manager at an Internet
service company, borrowed his
good friends Isuzu D-Max pick-up
truck to make his dream marriage
proposal to Natalie Hin, a quantity
surveyor, a reality.

Tommi Choo (left) and Natalie Hin.

to meet friends in Ipoh.

Choo shares their love

story with Star Motoring:
How long had you been dating
before the marriage proposal?
We had been dating for four and
a half years.
How did you two first meet?
Hin used to live a street away in
my childhood neighbourhood. My
grandmother and Hins mother
were good friends. Growing up,
we saw each other around the
neighbourhood but never engaged
in conversations.
In 2007, Hin moved away from
the area. We met again through
Facebook five years ago. In
between those years, we both
attended Tunku Abdul Rahman
College but never crossed paths.
I didnt even know her name
because I had always known her
as aunties daughter. Through
Facebook, I pursued her and we
became friends.
I kept in touch with her as she

Choos marriage proposal to Hin is made memorable with the help of friends and Isuzu D-Max pick-up trucks.

Propose in style
continued her studies. One day,
she asked me for help with her
computer, and that was our first
meeting. We had more dates
after that, leading to this point.
Hins mother was surprised
when I met her for the first time
in years and now we are ready
to become one big happy family.
What made you pop the
question?
We both had talked about
marriage but were busy with our
new jobs. After a few months
though, I decided not to wait any
longer as I wanted to spend the

rest of my life with her.

How did the idea of using a
pick-up truck in your proposal
come about?
The proposal idea came about
because I wanted to do something
different. You always see people
proposing with sports cars and
large luxury sedans, so I thought a
pick-up truck would be different.
The Isuzu D-Max Vehicross
caught my attention and when I
shared my idea with my good
friends, they liked it.
Has the truck become part of

your lives?
We drove the truck to Ipoh for
the proposal. On the way back, Hin
and I decided that we wanted to
buy this truck from my friend
Suresh as our first joint family
vehicle.

The proposal from Hins

perspective:
Did you think he was going to
propose?
Yes, I already knew and
suspected, but I was not prepared
to see the proposal happen on that
day as I thought we were just going

Were you surprised by the

proposal?
I was shocked. When we were
sitting and having dinner outside
the restaurant, Choos good friend
Suresh organised his friends in
Ipoh to drive into the restaurant
compound in their D-Max and
pretend that they were kidnapping
Choo. I was petrified and my
friends held me back as I watched
the kidnappers take Choo away.
But then banners proclaiming
Natalie Will You Marry Me came
up from behind the trucks. The
other restaurant customers turned
out to be musicians and dancers
who were part of the proposal
plan.
Would you recommend the idea
of using the pick-up truck in a
marriage proposal to your
friends? What is the best
location to propose if using one?
Yes, I would as it is memorable
and unique. The best location I can
think of is Tadom Hill in Banting in
front of the lake or Janda Baik next
to the stream.
