ROV Egypt Competition 2016

Rules & Guidelines


Part#1: Registration (20 Sept 1 Nov 2015)

Early registration will open from 20 Sept to 1 Nov 2015 on www.rovegypt.org


Late regsitration will open from 2 Nov to 31 Dec 2015 on www.rovegypt.org
Participation in the EXPLORER class is open to students in four or five years universities and
technical colleges.
School students are eligible to compete in RANGER class only and NOT eligible to compete in
the EXPLORER class.
Graduate students are NOT eligible to compete as student team members, but are welcome to
serve as team mentors or lead instructors. Graduate students are encouraged to contribute to
the team via advice and technical assistance.
For Explorer and RANGER: There are no limitations about the number of participating teams
per organization.
Teams must have at least three students with at least one faculty member or adult mentor
involved in the process. One student should be designated as the team captain/company
CEO.
Participation in the RANGER class is open to students in middle and high schools as well as
students in home schools, after school programs, clubs, and community organizations of
comparable grade levels.
Fees:
o 800 LE in early registration and 1300 LE for late registration for teams representing
Governmental Organizations.
o 2500 LE early registration and 3000 LE late registration for teams representing NonGovernmental Organizations, However teams will pay only 800 LE if early and 1300 LE
if late as registration fees and as soon they will be qualified for the regional competition
teams will pay 1700 LE if early or late and as regional fees.
o Once team registered they must pay their registration fees within a week from their
registration date and the regional fees will be paid 1 month before the regional finals.
o Payment method details will be sent to team leader after registration.
o Registration or regional fees are not including any accommodation or catering for teams
from ROV competition.

Part#2: Mission & Orientation Day (Nov-Dec 2015)

We are committed to MATE ROV Competition Mission 2016 that will be published on Nov-Dec
2015 on MATE Center website: www.marinetech.org
There will be orientation day after mission announcement to discuss and explain it in details.
The orientation day details will be announced after the mission announcement directly.

Part#3: Eligibility Round (15 Feb 2016)

It is required from all teams (Ranger and Explorer) to submit 3 min video showing their work
and their ROV working and diving in water as a condition to pass this round.
In your video, you must:
o Show your vehicle body as complete design also as complete vehicle basic parts are
installed on it.
o Prove that your ROV can dive and surf with its own power with no any help.
o Use your ROV camera to record the moments of diving and surfing.
o Prove that Electronics & control system can run your machine by record dry test for
each.
Submission must be on Youtube and sending the link through mail to reports@rovegypt.org
before 15 Feb 2016.
The results will be published after 1 week from the deadline and the judges will choose the
featured videos to be uploaded on the ROV Egypt Youtube channel.

Part #4: LOCAL COMPETITION (25-27 Feb 2016)

All teams from EXPLORER class only must pass the local competition to be qualified to
regional finals.
If number of teams per organization is 3 or less, they must pass the threshold points to be
qualified to regional finals.
If number of teams per organization is more than 3, the top 3 winnerss teams per organization
will be qualified to regional finals after passing the threshold points.
The local competition mission will be part from the whole mission that will be announced on
MATE Center website.
Local competition will consist of 2 parts (Safety check, Mission) and teams must pass the 2
parts to pass in the competition and it will be 1 try with committed to all technical conditions in
MATE mission manual.
The mission part, threshold and all local competition parts details will be announced in the
orientation day.

It is allowed for each organization to organize the local competition for its teams under
supervision from Competition committee and allowed participation of teams from other
organizations in the same competition.
If more than one organization is participating in the same local competition, the results will be
with respect to each organization.
If organization cant organize local competition, its teams will compete in the main local
competition held by Hadath.
The Main local competition and others in organizations must take place from 17 to 28 Feb
2016.
If any organization will organize its local competition, it must submit this request to the
competition committee before 15 Jan 2016

Part #5: REGIONAL COMPETITION (28-30 April 2016, AASTMT, Alex)

All teams must submit the technical report before 1 April 2016 with committed to all technical
conditions in MATE mission manual and this is a condition to compete in the finals by mail to
reports@rovegypt.org.
Teams can earn up to 5 points bonus if they made press release or any media outreach in
public media like newspapers, TV, radio, news websites and Facebook pages (more than
20000 likes) and send link of it by mail to info@rovegypt.org by 1 day before the finals.
Regional finals will contain mission achievment, presentation and poster display in addition to
the report sent before committed to all the technical conditions in MATE mission manual.
The top two winners in each class of the regional competition will be qualified to compete in
the international competition in USA.
All participants will receive a participation certificates with other prizes and trophies.

Part#6: International Competition (23-25 June 2016, TX, USA)

The 2016 MATE international ROV competition will take place June 23 - 25 at the NASA
Johnson Space Center's Neutral Buoyancy Lab (NBL) in Houston, TX, USA.
Winning teams members must finish their passports and send their copies to competition
committee 1 week following the regional finals to give them the needed invitation for visas.
There will be 150$ management fees on each person will travel from the winners teams and
must be paid after the regional competition directly to get the invitations and start the visa
process.
There will be 25% discount from any fund coming to the teams through Hadath process.
