Notice that Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness. What is a wilderness in
your life to which the Holy Spirit is leading you this lent? Perhaps there are
uncharted areas in your marriage or family relationships which you have avoided?
In the forty day of Lent, it is not a matter of us working on things but God working in
us. Open your heart, trust the Spirit and spend this Lent in your wilderness.

There are many ways we can respond to the call to live mercy. Here are a few ideas:
Put Two Feet of Love in Action. Use the Two Feet of Love in Action guide
to consider how you can strengthen both charitable works and social
justice at home and as part of your faith community. Visit
www.usccb.org/twofeet for more information.
Get Involved Locally. Explore the map at PovertyUSA.org to find local
organizations that practice mercy by learning about and addressing
poverty. Or, contact your diocesan director for the Catholic Campaign for
Human Development.
Engage Your Faith Community. With your faith community, use Pope
Francis prayer for the Jubilee Year, and the resources mentioned below, to
pray,
reach
out,
learn,
and
act
during
the
year.
Visit
WeAreSaltAndLight.org for stories of how communities of faith around the
country are living mercy.
Attend the Catholic Social Ministry Gathering (Jan. 23-26, 2016). This
years theme is Called to Live Mercy in Our Common Home
(www.CatholicSocialMinistryGathering.org).
Participate in Action Alerts on issues of life and dignity from the U.S.
Catholic bishops (cqrcengage.com/catholicbishops).
326 Holy Hours were kept with Our Lord in Eucharistic Adoration last week.
Our Lord hears our prayers anywhere, but he has revealed to His servants that
those who visit Him in the Eucharist will obtain a more abundant measure of
grace (St Alphonsus Ligouri). For more information on Eucharistic Adoration ,
please call Judy Soltis at 330-212-0926.
Are you looking for a quality kindergarten experience for your child or
maybe a fresh start for grades 1-8? St. Augustine School is now accepting
enrollment for 2016-2017. Need-based financial aid for students entering
K-8 and need-based scholarships for students entering grades K-3 are
available.
Please

The Red Cross is in great need of diapers and wipes for newborn and toddlers,
please consider a donation to this great cause.
Barberton Area Community Ministries item for the Month of February is Soup. All donations can be
placed in the bench in front of the giving tree in the vestibule of the church. Donations are picked up on
Monday mornings. Thank you again for all your support in helping us serve our brothers and sisters
in need.
The Augustine Athletic Board would like to thank all those who made this year's reverse raffle a
huge success. To all our generous parishioners that made monetary donation, area businesses
who said yes to help us out with a donation, and especially our friends in Barberton. We would
also like to thank all those who attended; because of you we reached our goal. We will be
purchasing new uniforms for the volleyball teams and t-shirts for the track team. Check us out
on Facebook at St. Augustine Athletics for updates.
Today, our parish will take up the 131st annual National Black and Indian
Mission Collection. Our support of this collection helps build the Church in
African American, Native American, and Alaska Native communities from
coast to coast. Schools, parish religious education programs and diocesan
ministries depend on your generosity to help them spread the Gospel of
Jesus Christ! You can help meet unmet needs with a generous
contribution today. Thank you for your support.
(Insert Graphic 2104-0008.tif) Our observance of Lent began on Ash Wednesday.
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of universal fast and
abstinence. Fasting is obligatory for all who have completed their 18 th year and
have not yet reached their 60 th year. Fasting allows a person to eat one full meal.
Two smaller meals may be taken, not to equal one full meal. Abstinence (from
meat) is obligatory for all who have reached their 14 th year. If possible, the fast on
Good Friday is continued until Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the paschal
fast to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to
share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Resurrection. Fridays in Lent are
obligatory days of complete abstinence (from meat) for all who have completed
their 14th year.
