Receiving tank type water supply.

3. Describe about public water supply?

1. Wells that are supplying water form pubic use should be located at a minimum distance of
100 m radius from residences.
2. All residents within this zone must have a sanitary sewer service.
3. There should be no Concrete sanitary sewers existing within 15 meters radius of the well.
4. No outdoor privies, cesspools, septic tank or drain fields shall be located within 45 meters
radius of the well.
5. The area should be well drained to divert surface water from the well and minimize the
possibility of flooding.
6. All abandoned wells near the site chosen for a new well should be plugged and properly
sealed to prevent possible contamination of the ground water formation.
4. How many types of plastic pipes? What are they?
There are two types of plastic pipes :
a. The Rigid Types:
1. PVC: Polyvinyl Chloride
2. CPVC: Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride
3. UPVC: Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride
4. ABS: Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene
5. PP:
Polypropylene
6. SR:
Styrene Rubber Plastic
b. The Flexible Types:
1. PE: Polyethylene
2. PB: Polybutylene

5. Why copper pipe is the best for supplying water (drinking water)? And cast iron
pipe good for waste line?
Cast iron pipe
- Not vibrate
- Make less noise if we compare with PVC
Copper pipe
- Good for health copper sustain in our body
6. How many types of Sewage Disposal Systems are there? Which types are
recommended by the authorities?
There are 4 types: Cesspool, Privy, Septic Tank, and Public Sewer line.
The recommended types are Septic Tank and Public Sewer line.
7. How does the sanitary authorities definite the size of the septic tank?
They definite that:
Residential House

Minimum dimensions for a family with 6 members

0.14 to 0.17 cu.m. of the tank volume per person

not more than 2 cu.m. for 12 persons

For school, commercial and industrial establishment

The volume of tank is from 0.057 to 0.086 cu.m. per person
8. What is the reason of constructing the concrete Tank in a rectangular form?

The reason is to retard the even flow of the waste and to avoid disturbing the
decomposition processes inside the tank.

9. Why must the bottom of the digestion chamber be sloped to one low point?

The purpose is to gather the settled organic materials into one mass to increase the
amount of anaerobic bacteria.

10. Why do we need to extend at least one soil stack through the roof?

We need to extend at least one soil stack through the roof because:
a. To ventilate and dispose off the sewer gas above the roof
b. To prevent siphonage of the traps by suction.
c. To prevent the possibility of a back pressure which may force the water seal off the
fixture traps

11. Explain Black water and Grey water.

Black Water: Waste from water closet containing feces, urine, flush water, cleaning
water and toilet paper

Grey Water: wasted water generated in households or office building from stream
without fecal contamination. All stream water except for the waste water from toilets.
Source of grey water include sinks, showers, baths, clothes washing machines or dish
washers.

The suitable places to install soil pipe and soil branch are:
- Embedded in columns, wall, or partition
- The location of the fixtures, location of doors and windows, drop ceiling
- Direct to water closet as possible
13. What is the efficiency of a correct horizontal waste installation as the soil branch?
The efficiency of a correct horizontal waste installation as the soil branch is the scouring
or self-cleaning action for every discharge of waste.
14. How to reduce the noise and condensation of soil pipe?
In order to reduce the noise and condensation of soil pipe, plumber should:
- embedded pipes in concrete
- use a good quality anti-sweat covering material to soil pipe
- Not put it to be in touch plastered wall or ceiling
15. How many types of water closet? What are they?

There are 7 types of waters such as following:

-

The Pail Flush type

The Squat type

Wash Down type

The Reverse trap

The Siphon jet

The Siphon Vortex

Direct Flush Valve type

16. What are the factors increased the potential of fire in modern design and
construction techniques?
-

The factors increased the potential of fire in modern design and construction techniques
are:
Light construction methods
Non integrally constructed floors and walls provide fuse for fire and smoke
False ceilings containing electrical and other services are hidden in where fire can start
unnoticed
Punch-through installations of telephone and other services violate design structural
integrity
Central air conditioning system can act as passage for smoke
The use of plastic materials
Furniture style and materials
17. In high rise buildings, what are the storages that water is supplied through?
-

Elevated water tower tank

Underground reservoir

18. What are Types of water supply in high rise building?

-

There are 5 types for supplying in high rise building:

Single booster system

Zone-divided system
Roof tanks
Series-connected systems with intermediate break tanks
A series-connected system
19. How many types of pipes that we can use for water heating? Explain?
-

There are 2 types in the following:

Hot water space heating system where water is confined within a system at relatively low
temperature.
Hot water supply system is not a closed system which operates on much higher pressure.
20. What are the requirements for fire protection in buildings?

Fire resistance of the building and its contents

Limitation of volume to adjacent vulnerable building
Exits and fire tower stairs
Protection against defective electrical systems
Lightning protection
Detection and alarm systems
Automatic sprinkler systems
