1. Getting Started
------------------------------------------------

1a. System Requirements


Your computer must meet the following system requirements to run this game.
The game may not run, or you may experience decreased performance on computers
that do not fulfill these requirements.
Minimum System:
OS: Windows 98SE/Me/2000(SP2 or later)/XP
CPU: PentiumIII 800 MHz equivalent or greater
RAM: 128MB or greater
Hard Disk Space: 800MB or greater
Video Card: Direct3D compatible video card (Video RAM 16MB or greater)
with newest graphics driver
Sound Card: DirectSound compatible sound card
Miscellaneous: DirectX 9.0b or later, IE 6.0 or later.
Controls: Keyboard, Mouse

Recommended System (refer to Minimum requirements above for unlisted items):


CPU: Pentium4 1.4GHz equivalent or greater
RAM: 256MB or greater
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce(TM) series or ATI RADEON(TM) series
with newest graphics driver
Controls: Analog Joypad with vibration function
Note: The game's performance and/or graphical quality may differ according to yo
ur computer's hardware and/or video card.
Computers with high-performance hardware will provide the best game performance.
Note: The in-game hints assume that you are using a standard USB gamepad control
ler to play the game. Please refer to your manual for control instructions if y
ou are not using a gamepad to play the game.
1b. Installing and Uninstalling the Game
Installation:
1) Double-click the game file to run the installer program.
2) Follow the on-screen instructions to install the game.
Note: You need to have DirectX 9.0b or later installed on your computer in orde
r to run the game.
Uninstallation:
The game can be uninstalled using one of the following methods:
1) Select the uninstall option from your Windows Start Menu.
2) Select the game from the Add/Remove Programs list in your Windows Control Pa
nel.
1c. Running the Game
Once you have installed the game and insert Disc 2, you can start playing by se
lecting the shortcut which has been added to your Windows Start Menu.
1d. Exiting the Game
Select 'Quit' in the MAIN Menu when you want to exit the game.
The game will always exit when Alt+F4 key is pushed.
1e. Configuring the Game
If Sonic Heroes performs slowly, although your computer meets the system requir
ements, try lowering the screen resolution, turning off the check boxes of "Fog"
"Anistropic filter" "Shadow setting", frame rate and/or clipping settings, and/
or switch to fullscreen mode if you are playing in window mode.

2. Trouble Shooting

2a. Problems during installation


# Cannot install Game
--> When the installation screen is not displayed even when you insert
CD-ROM into the CD drive, please double-click "setup.exe" in CD-ROM.
With Windows 2000 or Windows XP used, if the error message: "You have no
authority" is displayed when you attempt to install Game;
With Windows 2000 used, to install an application, your access right must belon
g to the PowerUser or higher group.
With Windows XP used, to install an application, the type of your account must
be "the administrator of PC".

2b. Problems when starting Game


# Game does not start up or an error occurs during power-up
--> Your graphics card may not satisfy the minimum system environment.
--> Your graphics card driver may not be compatible with DirectX 9.0b. Please ge
t the latest driver. (Sega does not distribute drivers.)
--> The Direct3D accelerator may be disabled. Please check that the Direct3D fu
nction is enabled with the entries of DirectX functions.
To start up the DirectX diagnostic tool, select "Run" in the Start menu of Win
dows, and enter "dxdiag.exe".
--> The hardware accelerator may not be set optimal in the entry of the performa
nce settings for your graphic card. Right-click on the Windows desktop, then s
elect "Settings"--> "Detailed Settings"
(Windows 98/Me/2000, "Details")--> "Trouble Shooting"
(Windows 98/Me, "Graphics" in "Performance") to check if the hardware accelerat
or is set maximized.
* When a problem does not improve even if you check the above contents, please t
ry uninstalling Game and installing it once more.

2c. Problems in Operation of the Game


# Game runs at low speed
--> Depending on your system environment, Sonic Heroes may sometimes operate at
higher speed if you set RESOLUTION to 640x480, SCREEN MODE to FULL SCREEN and FR
AME RATE to 15fps.
Furthermore, the Game may also run faster by turning FOG, ANISOTROPIC FILTER, F
OG, SHADOW SETTING off, or by reducing the CLIPPING level.
# If you leave Game for a while, the operation speed reduces.
--> Using power management (power-supply management function) or energy saving d
uring the gameplay may lead to malfunction. Therefore if you are using these fu
nctions, please turn them off.
# Game will be shut down
--> Do you use power management or energy-saving functions? When you are running
Sonic Heroes, please turn them off. If you are using them during gameplay, the
y may lead to malfunction.
# PC shuts down or restarts during the gameplay
--> Your PC power supply may not be adequate to power your hardware.
This is most likely to occur if you have installed a graphics card that requir
es its own independent power supply. Please ensure your graphics card is correc
tly installed and connected to your power supply. Also ensure that your power s
upply has sufficient capacity for the graphics card.
# You cannot control Game with Mouse or Game Pad
--> Select Keyboard or Game Pad in "CONTROLLER SETTING" and assign each button o
nto them.
--> If you cannot control Game with Mouse or Game Pad after booting up Game, ple
ase click the screen once with mouse.

2d. Problems with BGM and Sound Effects


# Ill-balanced sound volume
--> Adjust sound volume of each sound in the "Sound" option in Game or adjust th
e sound balance in Volume Control in the Windows menu.

2e. Problems with Screen Display


# Screen display becomes corrupt or movie is not displayed appropriately
--> With some combinations of system environments and graphic drivers, screen di
splay may improve if you set "COLOR MODE" in "GRAPHIC SETTINGS" to "32bit".
--> Some combinations of system environments and graphic drivers will make scree
n display corrupt, slow down movies or cause partial image problems or sound pro
blems. In these cases, please update the driver of your graphic card with the l
atest driver. (Sega does not distribute drivers.)
* About graphic cards
According to performance of graphic cards, problems may sometimes occur in displ
aying textures. Please note that this is a problem caused by performance of spe
cific graphic cards.
