FRIDAY NIGHT PROGRAMMING

Canteen and Horizons are both social programs for the special needs community
that run on Friday nights from October to May and follow the school calendar.
Canteen typically meets on
Fridays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00
p.m. at Carteret School. Events
are planned by coordinator
Gladys Navas. This year theyve
been on a few trips such as
apple picking at Longmeadow
Farm in Hope, NJ and to a
Home Alone Production from
the New Jersey Symphony.
Future activities include pizza
night, and trips to Funplex and
the boardwalk.
When not at special events we
spend time in Carteret School
participating in activities such
as arts &crafts, sports and
having dances.

The Horizons group has been

having a great year! The group
follows a monthly calendar
created by coordinator Lisa
Forte. Event times, locations
and length (typically 2 hours
long) change weekly. In the
past few months weve
participated in a variety of
events such as seeing A
Christmas Story at the Paper
Mill Playhouse, dancing the
night away at the UNICO/Circle
of Friends holiday party, going
to the movies and bowling.
Some upcoming events
include going to the
Meadowlands Racetrack,
Monster Mini golf, attending
shows at the Paper Mill and
MSU, and trying new
restaurants and locations.

After School Programming: The CARE Station

The CARE Station

Holiday Party

The Care Station is an after-school program for

Bloomfield children with special needs. The program
runs Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. until 6:00
p.m. at Carteret Elementary School. The Care Program
follows the school calendar and does not run when
school is not in session or on days with early dismissal.
Some activities that are provided during The Care
Station include academic support, snack, and
recreational activities including arts and crafts, Karate
and Yoga classes, gym time and the occasional special
events.
A twice weekly program at The Care Station this year is
Art Kids Academy. Its a creative arts program that
promotes critical and creative thinking in
children through artistic instruction. They take a handson approach to learning with a focus on problem
solving and self-expression. They provide leading edge,
interactive art instruction. Using professional and
student grade materials and a variety of art mediums,
students will create their own art portfolios focused on
Master Artists as they learn about cultures from around
the world. They provide an artistic experience that is
sure to leave a lasting impression!
