Introduction

Federal Hospital is a semi-private hospital working with in Karachi with

10 Floor building. Hospital is now moving towards privatization and
requires total revamping to make its communication more reliable
between departments.

Mr. Atta-UR-Rehman is responsible to manage the network. He require

your help in designing new network design.

Current Network

The entire hospital is using legacy network with 50 computers which

are PII 350MHz and use MS Excel for day to day use. The entire
department can not share any information. The hub environment is
giving very slow response. The medical staff has requested the ability
to access medical system using Laptops any patient rooms. Doctors
and nurses should be able to access patient medical records.

Patient Rooms are on Floor 4 through 10 Floor of the hospital building,

Access point is needed so that Doctors can use Laptops on each floor.
The new IT room will be located at 3rd Floor, where new server will be
installed. 1st and Second floor has got Labs and administration
department respectively.

General applications used are:

• Microsoft Office applications
• File and print services
• E-mail
• WWW and HTTP

Requirement

• Replacement of the existing flat network with L2/L3 switches.

• Scalable support future for application and expansion.
• Reliable and fault tolerant
• Use IP address 200.100.0.0/24
• Internet facility should be provided to all users.

 • Implement an appropriate IP routing protocol for the hospital
network.
• Easy to manage and has a response time of approximately
1/10th of a second or less
• Cost-effective

You have been asked to analyse the Fedral Hospital requirements,

propose, and document a campus network design solution to meet the
specified requirements of the company. Any network downtime would
be detrimental to the company’s operation. Therefore, the network
must be reliable and fault-tolerant. Your proposal needs to be well
structured, documented and all points clearly justified.

The report should be word processed using Times New Roman size 12
fonts, spell checked, and should not exceed 20 sides of A4 (excluding
the diagrams). All sources of information should be clearly referenced.

Your report should cover all the items listed under the marking
scheme, preferably in the specified sequence.

Marks will be allocated as follows:
1. Rationale for the recommended campus network technology.

[10 marks]

2. Recommended appropriate physical network media. Discussion,

specification, and justification of the selected physical network
media.
[5 marks]

3. Recommended appropriate interconnection devices. Discussion,

specification, and justification of the selected interconnection
devices.
[10 marks]

4. Devised a correct, complete, and efficient classless IP addressing

scheme for the whole campus and fully documented the address
allocations. [30 marks]

5. Rationale for the recommended WAN technology.(If Any)

[5 marks]

6. Recommended an appropriate routing protocol. Discussion and

justification of the selected routing protocol.
[5 marks]

7. Detailed, complete, and clear physical design documentation of

the recommended campus network solution, clearly showing the
location of nodes, servers, devices and their interconnection
media. [15 marks]

8. Proposed networking infrastructure meets the Fedral Hospital

requirements for availability, performance, and scalability.

9. Format, structure, flow and synthesis of the presented

information. [5 marks]
