A.

INPUT DATA Portion : Excel Sheet Column C to K.

You are to provide the following data in excel sheet : sheet1 at input
data portion.
PAU
= Acting Axial Force
MAY
= Acting Bending Moment about Y-axis
MAZ
= Acting Bending Moment about Z-axis
B
= One dimension of the column in the direction of MAY i.e.
countering MAY.
D
= Another dimension of the column in the direction of MAZ
i.e. countering
MAZ.
d
= Concrete Cover upto centre of steel
Steel Percent
= Percentage of reinforcing bar wrt cross-section
proposed for design
Fck
= Characteristic strength of concrete
Fy
= Characteristic strength of reinforcement steel
Note : PAU, MAY & MAZ may be brought from Staad output sheet or
given manually. The axis system is kept at par with Staad file and
hence, no problem to copy & paste. If the section fails with above data,
u just change B or D or Fck or Percent steel and click. U can
experiment with the data which is the best set of input data by
changing it at your convenience.
B.

OUTPUT DATA Portion : Excel Sheet Column L to Q.

After rigorous calculation in the background of the user, the following

outputs are actually placed to the user for observing whether design is
safe or unsafe.
MUX
= Moment Capacity of the column section with reinforcement
about Y-axis. MUX is typed inadvertently. It should be MUY. Please
correct it as MUY in your sheet. Just click on the cell and type MUY. I am
writing it as MUY subsequently.
MUZ
=
Moment Capacity of the column section with
reinforcement about Z-axis.
IRATIO = Interaction ratio of the column section with reinforcement
under the acting loads of PAU, MAY, MAZ.

ALPHAN = is an exponent whose value depends on Pu/Puz. This value

is given in the output portion just for check.
PUY
= MUY & MUZ are indepently being calculated considering
that an axial force of PUY is acting on the column. This has been placed
on the output to see whether PUY is at par with acting axial force input
PAU. If PUY is nearer to PAU, it will be proved that the calculations are
more exact. This is just for a check.
REMARKS = Whether the section fails or passes under the acting load
is indicated in this column and also indicating the type of failure.
Design is being checked by the
(MAZ/MUZ)ALPHAN <=1.
U can manually check it after output.

equation

(MAY/MUY) ALPHAN+

Background calculations are numerous with various options. The

program is actually reading your input data portion one row at a time
(9 data) from excel sheet column C to K and with that 9 data, it is
going away in the background and deciding which equations will be
applicable for these design data. After verification and calculation of all
the data as required for design of the section, output results are being
written on your excel sheet1 from column L to Q indicating whether the
section is safe or fail. All the inner calculated data are not required to
be written on the output sheet as so many output data & check results
are there that writing of these data on sheet will confuse & also will be
cumbersome.
After writing the results for 1st row of data, program checks whether
you have put an END in the next row, if yes, program terminates and
if no, again another set of data is read for further calculation and
verification. This process continues till your END (written by you at
the next row of ur last data row in column C) is realized by it. You can
provide 7994 (= 8000-6) rows of data at a time. But more the data,
time of processing will also be more. Dont be nervous to see the time
taken. Pls. wait until cursor changes.
After giving a new input, you are to click on the button named click on
me to get output. Try it now only with one row of data. Data may be
whatever you like. 1st you check with a known set of data for which you
have already calculated. See whether the Moment capacities,
Interaction Ratio & AlphaN values are OK.
In the input data portion, u can delete or add any row as required. U
can also clear/delete all the data contents or output contents below

row 6, if u require. Just keep in mind, after giving ur input data, put the
word END in the next row.
U may provide or may not provide the Member No and Node No. These
are kept only for information.
Inner calculations are long enough to discuss here. However, I will
discuss the stress-strain and interaction curves in the next time, I log
in.
