India have provided runway lead-in lighting system for the first time in India at Calicut
airport as per the recommendations of the DGCA.
Since 1 May 2015, the airport was closed to wide body aircraft, such as Boeing 777 and 747,
for a period of six months. This is due to runway re-carpeting, which has been long overdue
at this airport. Emirates, Saudia and 2 Air India flights have shifted operations temporarily to
Cochin International Airport during this time.
For the Cargo there are 6 counters for clearance and separate provision for import
CSR Projects - Household Solid Waste Management through Pipe Compost System provided
to 1,055 houses at Nediyiruppu Grama Panchayath while action for providing Solar Power
Plants to Pallikkal and Kondotty Grama Panchayaths is at final stage

for the safety of the Aircraft and passengers there is airport rescue and fire services
established by Airports authority of India
OBJECTIVE OF AIRPORT RESCUE & FIRE SERVICES
To provide excellent Rescue and Fire Fighting Services to save life and property at AAI
Airports.
To impart emergency response training to Rescue and Fire Fighters to update their
professional skills and knowledge.
To meet the deficiency of trained Fire Personnel as well as to upgrade the professional
skills and human behavior in Fire Services.
Level of Protection provided at airports for Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF)
purposes according to the designated category of the airport as per the ICAO standard.
Compliance of ICAO, DGCA & AAI Fire Orders.
Fire prevention and protection of ATC Tower, Terminal Building, Technical Building,
Cargo and other Airport infrastructures.
Fire Orders/ Circulars are issued & updated for various activities and services which are
related to fire safety and emergency services.
The Airport Fire Service conducts various emergency exercises Full Scale Emergency
Exercise, Partial Exercise, Building evacuation Drill, Mock Drill etc.
Fire investigation and analysis
Mutual aid fire fighting with other fire safety assistance services like City Fire Brigade &
industrial Fire Services.
First Aid Fire fighting Training to all stakeholders at airports.
Ambulance services provides to the aircraft passengers
AAI Rescue & Fire Services Introduced Fire Consultancy Services for other organization.
