INTRODUCTION
One of the major problems with the servicing and maintenance of an automobile is in lifting the
vehicle for many purposes specially to check lower parts of the car in details and also to change
tires. As a user, we would usually have the conventional device which is the screw jack in our car
in case of emergency; this would cause some difficulty in lifting the car for reconditioning
especially for the women and elderly users. In current market and in conventional practice of
automobile industry, bottle jack and screw jack is widely used. It lifts the car on the side where
the work is to be done. This takes time as the mechanic or handler needs to change tire one by one
on each side or need to lift car one side by another if necessary. In order to avoid such
disadvantages, this motorized hydraulic jack has been designed in such way that it could use to
lift up the vehicle smoothly in any ground condition without any high force needed and also time
consuming. The operation is made simple that even an unskilled person can handle it by just
demonstrating it to them once. Additionally, as it need to be compact, economical and multitask
as possible, some space for the other tool and accessories are to be added.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

1. In case of emergency the current jack would not come handy at all time for the user. They
might face some difficulty to jack up their car safely as some jack would not work as
expected in any ground condition as the car would be unstable once it has lifted as it
would be lifted one side.
2. The current hydraulic jack is easy to use but not as convenient as it may be if it is needed
to change both tires at once since you have to jack up your car twice. It would cost
more time and extra work is done unnecessarily.
6

OBJECTIVES

1. To design and implement a safe car jack system which is stable in all conditions and is
usable all the time.
2. To reduce time for the handlers and energy consumption for the users especially for
the elderly and woman as it is designed to be operated automatically through motor.
3. To come up with a specific machine for lifting cars which is portable and economical
which would make it easy for all the people to own one and use them when it is needed.

CONCEPT SOLUTION
The motorized hydraulic jack system has been designed with the application of the power

7 (i) window system and hydraulic fluid. It has the ability to lift cars easily and safely at any ground
condition without much time. This motorized hydraulic jack works with two cylinders (a large
and a small one) are connected and force is applied to one cylinder, equal pressure is generated in
both cylinders. However, because one cylinder has a larger area, the force the larger cylinder
produces will be higher, although the pressure in the two cylinders will remain the same.
Hydraulic jacks which is to be designed works and depend on this basic principle to lift heavy
loads and it is operated with a power window system. Besides, it is also attached with a
compressor to make it handy for the users to fill air in the spare tires before changing them.
7

CONCEPT SOLUTION
The idea of the machine to be designed using components consists of:

7 (ii)

MOTOR
- Make the jack work automatically once the switch is turned on. Uses the same
principle as the power window system.

HYDRAULIC FLUID
- To convey power to lift the car. Force is transferred through the pressure and area of
the jack via the fluid exist.

ROD
- Extendable rod to extend the needed length according to the size of car. Portable and
easy to keep in car.

SWITCH
- To turn on and off the motor so that the jack works. Separate switch to lift car up and
down.

CYLINDER
- Two separate bottle cylinders with two cylinder in each side of the hydraulic jack.

COMPRESSOR
- To fill in air in the spare tire in case of emergency when changing punctured tires.
