The Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant in Bhopal, Madhya
II.
CASE TITLE
Bhopal Plant Disaster
III.
TIME CONTENT
The Bhopal Plant Disaster is a short term study.
IV.
VIEWPOINT
Safety of the workers should always be the top priority in any job they would work
on. Moreover, the company should take full responsibility in implementing the necessary
precautions and guidelines as well as the assurance of safety and functionality of the
equipment in the plant. If anything bad will happen, not only the company and the
workers would jeopardize but also the innocent people around.
V.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
We tell lies when we are afraid afraid of what we dont know, afraid of what
others will think, afraid of what will be found out about us. But every time we tell a lie,
the thing that we fear grows stronger.

University of Notre Dame, Indiana University, Emory University and Harvard University.
His area of research concerned the testing of heart drugs on dogs. All of this came to a
sudden hen three colleagues in the Cardiac Research Laboratory in Harvard observed
Darsee fabricating the records of data.
VII.
OBJECTIVES
This case aims to:
1. Identify the possible consequences when fabricating data.
2. Determine the burden his actions might cause.
3. Motivate oneself to always do what is right.
VIII.
AREAS OF CONSIDERATIONS
If only Darsee did not fabricate the data, his research fellowships would not be
terminated and the offer of a faculty position in Harvard would not be withdrawn.
Moreover, much time had been wasted. The months of investigation also took others
away from their main tasks and placed them under pressure.
IX.
There is no assurance that everything we do will turn out into what we want it to
be. All we can do is to do our best with full honesty and accept the result whole
heartedly. If it fails, it doesnt mean that it is the end of everything. Theres also room for
new chances. Dont let a single mistake takes away everything you have. Whatever
happens, we just always need to do what is right.

SUMMARY
Dr. Robert Sprague sent a letter to the National Institute of Mental Health
documenting the fraudulent research of Dr. Stephen Breuning. Bruening fabricated data
concerning the effects psychotropic medication has on mentally retarded patients.
Despite of Breunings admission of fabricating the data, Sprague became the target of
investigation. Spragues diabetic wife was reliable on research and medication. Her
death was one of the major factors prompting his whistle blowing to NIH.

Fabricating Data: The Breuning Case
III.
TIME CONTENT
The Breuning Case is a long term study.
IV.
VIEWPOINT
Building ones work on the incorrect or unsubstantiated data of others infects
ones own research, and the chain of consequences can be quite lengthy and serious. It
is your responsibility to provide reliable data most especially when it comes to the health
of the people. You might not know how many people are relying in your studies, so you
better not fabricated anything.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
Truth allows you to live with integrity. Everything you do and say shows the
VII.
OBJECTIVES
This case aims to:
1. Determine the consequences of his misconduct.
2. Identify the importance of not having fraudulent research.
VIII.
AREAS OF CONSIDERATIONS
If only Breuning did not fabricate the data, Sprague has nothing to be revealed
and will not be investigated. Spragues research endeavors will not be curtailed; he will
not be subjected to threats of lawsuits, and no need to testify before a U.S House of
Representatives. Whats worse is the death of his wife who was on reliable research
and medication.

SUMMARY
Love canal was built to unify waterways into efficient shipping systems but due
to financial problem, it was abandoned. Later on, the Hooker Electrochemical
Corporation bought the land for the need for toxic waste disposal. Having exhausted
the canals potential as waste dump and the need to build a new school; the local
school board built an elementary school in the area. Three children suffered chemical
burns from waste that had resurfaced at the former canal site.

toxic chemicals. If a site is to be used for waste disposal, it requires good facilitation.
VII.
OBJECTIVES
This case aims to:
1. Determine the possible effects of improper disposal of chemicals.
2. Encourage self-awareness in taking care of the environment.
VIII.
AREAS OF CONSIDERATIONS
If only the Hooker Electrochemical Corporation did not use the canal for chemical
disposal, the school will be immediately built and the children will not suffer. Moreover, if
only the government and other public agency took action into this matter, no one would
be harmed.
