Intro

Taylor Swift was born on December 13, 1989, in Reading,

Pennsylvania.[5][6][7] She was named after singer James
Taylor.[8] Her father, Scott Kingsley Swift, is a Merrill
Lynchfinancial advisor. Her mother, Andrea Gardner (Finlay)
Swift,[12][13]is a homemaker who previously worked as amutual
fund marketing executive. Swift spent her early years on her
family's Christmas tree farm in nearby Wyomissing. Her
grandmother had been a professional opera singer, and Swift
soon followed in her footsteps.
At the age of nine she turned her attention to musical theatre and
performed in Berks Youth Theatre Academy However, after a few
years of auditioning in New York and not getting anything, she
became interested in country music. At age 12 she was shown by
a computer repairman how to play three chords on a guitar,
inspiring her to write her first song, "Lucky You". She moved to
Nashville at age 14, having secured an artist development deal
with RCA Records. She left RCA Records when she was 15--the
label wanted her to record the work of other songwriters and wait
until she was 18 to release an album, but she felt ready to launch
her career with her own material. At an industry showcase at
Nashville's The Bluebird Caf in 2005, Swift caught the attention
of Scott Borchetta, a Dreamworks Records executive who was
preparing to form his own independent record label, Big Machine
Records.

She released her first single, "Tim McGraw," in 2006, and the
song became a Top 10 hit on the country charts. It also appeared
on her self-titled debut album in October of that same year, selling
more than 2.5 million copies. More popular singles soon followed,
including "Our Song," a No. 1 country music hit. "Teardrops on My
Guitar," "Picture to Burn" and "Should've Said No" were also
successful tracks.
In addition to commercial success, Swift received a lot of critical
praise for her debut effort. She won the Horizon Award from the
Country Music Association (CMA) and.
