HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
When Martial Law was declared by the deposed Pres. Ferdinand E.
Marcos, it was that barangays has been created.
LOCATION AND LAND AREA
Barangay 1 is located at the northwest coast of Bacolod City. Barangay
Banago bound
it on the north on the northeast by the barangay
Mandalagan, on the east by the barangay 5, on the southeast by the
barangay 4, on the south by barangay 3, on the southwest by the barangay
2 in the west by the Guimaras Strait.
BARANGGAY 3
BACKGROUND
Barangay 3 is an urban community locates in the heart of the City of
Bacolod with a total land area of 14,668 hectares and a population of 4, 980
people. The brand name is WATER RANCH because the barangay catches
water from the areas during rainy season, settle in the community as it is
known as a catch basin. During the early years the barangay is a ranch
(cuadra) because of the abundance of cogon like grasses to feed the horses.
There are swampy areas in the barangay and serves as a source of livelihood
for they used it as a fish pond.
The boundary landmarks are Andres Bonifacio Elementary School along
18 Gatuslao Street, the mansion of hotelier the late Lourdes Ciocon and
Caltex Depot along San Juan Streets.
Barangay 3 is composed of 7 puroks, 1 class B and class C subdivisions.
Each purok celebrates their own fiesta in honor of saints which the devotees
has chosen package with so many entertainment.
BARANGAY 5
PHYSICAL PROFILE
Barangay 5 is one of the forty-one (41) urban barangays which was
created in 1973, under Ordinance No. P.D. 86-86-A. Modified on December
17, 1985 under City Ordinance No. 08, approving and adopting the
Recommended Delineation of Boundaries of Sixty One (61) Urban and Rural
Barangays.
GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION AND BOUNDARIES:
Barangay 5 is located within the City Radius. It is bounded by Lacson
Street on the West, Mandalagan Bridge on the North along Riverside River on
the Northeast and East side, La Salle Avenue on the Southeast and 17th
Street on the South.
BARANGAY 10

Barangay 10, like most of the urban barangays of Bacolod is situated at

Today, there were many changes and development in the barangay under
the able leadership of honorable Punong Barangay Renato Claver and with
the support of his council, purok officials, barangay constituents and other
sectors.
The Barangay 38 has become the vehicle for delivering basic services to
the people such as the installation of water facilities, roads and pathway
widening in purok sampaguita and purok Adelfa, the improvement of
electrical and drainage system, the construction of Barangay Arc, the solid
waste management and the clean and green program was properly
implemented.
Barangay 38 is a drug free awardees and clean and green program
awardee.
BARANGAY ALIJIS
BARANGAY PROFILE
Sometimes in year 1962 when the Honorable City Mayor transmitted his
first endorsement to the City Council of Bacolod a map prepared by the City
Engineers which contains and indicate therein the different boundaries of the
proposed Barrios, it was then that ORDINANCE NO. 116, series of 1962 was
approved.
In 1995, Barangay Alijis started to boost up its name from the rest of the
Barangays in the City because of its landmark, the St. Jude Thaddeus Shrine.
The invincible Barangay Captain Hon. Pepito T. Malapitan from 1994 until the
present, recognizes it as "THE SHRINE OF HOPE" because of its full support to
the development of the Barangay as a whole community.
Barangay Alijis is one of the best and most progressive Barangay in
Bacolod City. The Barangay can be found in the Southern part of Bacolod City
and has land area of 360.4476 hectares with a population of 15,771 these
composed of 2,628 households. There are now 29 Puroks in Barangay Alijis
wherein 30% is the unemployment rate since most of the households are
working and 25% of the households are now squatting. Crimes are not much
of a problem in Barangay Alijis.
An agricultural area gradually improves and develops into an Industrial
site. Soon it will be known not only with its Shrine but also with the opening
BARANGAY ESTEFANIA
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Barangay Estefania before and until now is widely known for its large
tracts of agricultural lands, more commonly called haciendas, owned by
prominent families known for their benevolent in donating some of their
properties for social and charitable purposes. These families include, among
others, the Maravilla and Gonzaga clans. Estefania Maravilla, considerd the
matriarch of the Maravilla family was a spinster and Roman, his nephew, was
fortunate to inherit all her properties after her death.
When communities were organized to become barrios the name Estefania
came in handy and the birth or Barrio Esrtifania came in to being. Said name
was found further social acceptance when Roman Maravilla donated portion
of his property for the establishment of the Estefania Elem. School.
During the Marcos era, when barangay were organized, Barrio Estefania
became Barangay Estefania as it is now.

contributes to the production of seasonal fruits such as kaimito, santol,

BARANGAY TACULING
Barangay Taculing is the second largest barangay in the city in terms of
population. With 22 subdivision in its domain. It is considered as the "Land of
Subdivisions". It is where the Bacolod City National High School is situated.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
According to a legend, there was an ex-captain of a ship who brought a
large tract of land in a place which is now known as Barangay Taculing. For
sentimental reason, he named his newly acquired property Taculin in
memory of his ship, Taculin. Form his land grew in abundance wild grapes
called Bicang. Its fruit was glossy black when ripe in which the people called
it tuling in their native dialect. Because of this, the native called their place
Tuling before it was purchase by the ex-captain. There was confusion as to
the name of the place. Some people called it Tuling while others called it
Taculin. But as the years went on the people gradually called the place
Taculing for proper identification.
In order to officially identify the place, the Barangay Council of 1964-1968
passed a resolution sponsored by Councilmen Ivar Solidom and Rodolfo
Aspan to officially name the barangay as Barangay Taculing.
The offices of the City Mayor, City Council, City Superintendent of Schools,
City Treasurer, Division Superintendent of Schools of Negros Occidental and
the Secretary of Education, Manila were each furnished a copy of the
resolution.
Since then, the place is called, Barangay Taculing.
PHYSICAL PROFILE
Location
Barangay Taculing is geographically located in the central part of Bacolod
City, that is 3.3 kilometers away from City proper.
It is bounded on the Northwest by the City Proper, on the east by Barangay
Mansilingan, on the south by Barangay Alijis, on the southwest by Barangay
Singcang, and on the northeast by Barangay Villamonte and Vista Alegre.
BARANGAY TANGUB
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
A story handed down form the early residents of Barangay about hew this
place got its name. Long ago, the Barangay was covered with thick forest
with wild animals and birds. One day while the villagers were having their
noonday rest in their cogon huts, they heard an unusual sound. The strong
and brave, curios to know what the sound was, left their huts in hurry with
their spears and dogs and proceeded to the direction of sound. It was not
long before they caught sight of the biggest deer in the world. They set a
strong trap near the south of the Magsungay creek because they believed
that the deer must be very thirsty and they anxiously watched the trap. After
a while they heard a faint rushing sound and it get louder and louder and a
few seconds later the biggest deer in the world was running towards the
trap. The villagers had a big feast after that, since that time, people called
the place TANGAB Which means trap in English.
It was on 1950 when the Mayor of Bacolod appointed the first Barrio
Lieutenant and in 1967 it was formally made a Barrio and the name TANGUB
was adopted by the residents.
