Erica Cutler Sets Two National Scoring Records

Cutler of Fort Wayne, Indiana,
threw 34 consecutive strikes at the
Fort Wayne USBC Womens
Bowling
Association
City
Tournament, and the performance
helped her break two national scoring records.
The 33-year-old right-hander
started her doubles set with a 4-7
spare conversion and then struck
on her next 34 shots, before leaving
a 7 pin on her final attempt.
Cutler recorded games of 290,
300 and 299 for an 889 series, besting the previous mark of 879,
shared by Katie Verbil of Wichita,
Kansas, and Bryanna Cot of Red
Rock, Arizona.
Cutlers memorable day at
Thunder Bowl I also helped her
and Fort Waynes Brittney
Haneline post the highest threegame total for two women with
1,615. Haneline added a 726 series
to the effort.
Angela Brick and Sue Jeziorski
of Endicott, New York, set the doubles mark with 1,591 in 2005.

I was just trying to stay smooth
and hit my mark, said Cutler, who

was inducted into the Fort Wayne

USBC WBA Hall of Fame in 2014
and now owns four perfect games
and three 800 series. We all had
great lines, and everybody was
striking, and I felt like that really
kept us motivated to keep it going.
Cutler already owned the Fort
Wayne USBC WBA three-game
womens record after rolling an
864 series in 2011, and she relied
on that experience in beating her
own record on the way into the
national record books.
Cheering her along the way at
Thunder Bowl I were her husband,
Doug, and daughter, Brooklyn.
Its an amazing accomplishment, Cutler said. My husband
and daughter were there, and that
was great, especially since my husband had never seen me shoot
300.
The achievement also was bittersweet for Cutler, whose mother
died in October.
The hardest part was not being
able to call her afterwards, since
she was the reason I started bowling, Cutler said. Im very thankful to my family and friends who
have supported me throughout my
bowling career. We really have a
great bowling family here in Fort
Wayne.

average with 225.40.
Svensson, a 20-year-old twohanded player, had won his second PBA Tour title, and first on
American soil, when he defeated

267-193, to win the PBA

GEICO PBA World Series of
Bowling VII presented by Silver
Legacy at the National Bowling
Stadium. Earlier in the year he
won the 13th Kingdom of Bahrain
Open.
Svensson was a runaway winner
in the Rookie of the Year race,
voted upon by PBA members. He
was the choice on 68.5 percent of

the ballots cast, topping Texas

14.11 percent and Washingtons
Cameron Weiers 10.33 percent.
Svensson was the leader among
rookies in average (225.81) and
earnings ($57,870).
I am very proud and honored to
get this award, said Svensson.
Just a lot of happiness going
through my body right now. I
have always dreamed about competing and winning on U.S. soil
and that dream came true. I think
that is a big thing that helped to
get this award.
Belmonte and Svensson became
the first players from outside the
U.S. to earn Player of the Year and
Rookie of the Year in the same
season. They were also the first
players who use the unique twohanded delivery to earn those
honors in the same season.
Blanchard, who won both of his
PBA Tour titles in 2015, was
selected
as
the
Nagy
Sportsmanship Award by his fellow competitors. Established in
1966,
the
Steve
Nagy
Sportsmanship Award is named
after the late PBA Hall of Famer
and founding members of the
PBA. A colorful and talented performer, Nagy made such an
impact on his fellow pros that the
award was established shortly
after his death. Other players
receiving strong support were
Ronnie Russell and Dom Barrett
who were next in line in Steve
Nagy Award voting by PBA Tour
players.

that attitude helps me be a better
bowler.
Godbout, a PBA West Region
competitor, was selected by a special PBA committee as the recipient of the 2015 Tony Reyes
Community Service Award which
is named after the PBA champion
who died in 2012 as the result of a
traffic accident.
Godbout, who is a youth director and a USBC bronze level
coach 4th Street Bowl in San Jose,
established several charitable initiatives in Reyes name including
the Tony Reyes Memorial
Scholarship and the Tony Reyes
Memorial Youth/Adult Doubles
Tournament. He is also cofounder of the 4th Street Bowl
Junior bowling program and is a
past recipient of the NorCal Tony
Reyes Memorial Award.
This is a huge honor and Im a
little overwhelmed, Godbout
said. I had just started to work
with Tony to organize a youth
program at 4th St. Bowl and it
was only a month after I met him
that he passed away. Ill never forget how much help he was to me
and how enjoyable it was to work
with him, so that was really my
inspiration to get involved in putting the tournament and scholarship together in his honor.

HACKENSACK, NJ The Westwood girls successfully defended their Bergen County title, turning the tables on Holy Angels who had beaten them
in the FDU Team Championships recently.
Spearheaded by junior Kristen Benavente, the
Cardinals overcame the Angels ninety-five pin
opening game lead with a tourney high 993 second
game and entered the revised format fifteen game
Baker play in the afternoon ahead by sixty-nine
pins. Battle-tested in Baker-style competition,
Westwood fought off a determined Holy Angels
squad and coasted to victory.
Paramus Catholic ended in third place as senior
Kristen Kane came from behind to win the individual title with a 666 set. Coaches, players and spectators alike were glued to her third game finish in
which she strung the first eight strikes, but a ninth
frame pocket 8-10 split spoiled her shot at perfection and Kristen settled for 265.
