SCOPE
This document provides installation instructions, features and known issues for The
Unscrambler X Design-Expert Upgrade v1.0.

INTRODUCTION
The Unscrambler X v10.3 and earlier versions have their own Design of Experiments
(DoE) module, including features for setting up and analyzing experimental designs.
Recently CAMO Software AS went into a partnership with Stat-Ease, Inc., provider of the
Design-Expert Software. Starting with The Unscrambler X v10.4, the previous
Unscrambler X DoE module will be removed and replaced with a link to Design-Expert
Software version 9 (DX9), enabling Unscrambler X users access to the full range of powerful
features within DX9.
This upgrade is provided for users of The Unscrambler X v10.3 that wish to get access to
DX9 before v10.4 is released. It requires The Unscrambler X Service Pack 2014 (SP14)
and is not compatible with any other plugins or upgrades installed after SP14.
The initial bundling of the two software products is basic. An instance of DX9 will open
every time the user attempts to create a design from within The Unscrambler X. The
design itself is created in DX9 and can be analyzed there, and the saved design file can also
be imported back into the Unscrambler X for multivariate analysis. An imported design in
Unscrambler X can also be modified or extended, in which case the current design will be
loaded directly into DX9. The integration of the two software products will be even more
powerful in future versions. For instance methods for multivariate optimization are planned
in The Unscrambler X to fully benefit from applying multivariate methods on designed
data.
Note: The Unscrambler X Design-Expert Upgrade v1.0 will permanently remove all old
DoE functionality and help docs from The Unscrambler X and replace them with DX9
links. These changes are irreversible in the sense that you may uninstall the DesignExpert Upgrade but previous DoE module will not be restored unless The Unscrambler
X v10.3 is re-installed.

PREREQUISITES
In order to install The Unscrambler X Design-Expert Upgrade v1.0, Design-Expert
Software version 9 has to be pre-installed. It is required that both The Unscrambler X
v10.3 and The Unscrambler X Service Pack 2014 are installed as well.

STATEMENT OF COMPLIANCE
This plugin has been developed following CAMO Softwares quality guidelines, and the
complete changes have been tracked in our revision control system. Where changes have
been introduced in algorithms or functionality, these have been localized to affected
modules only and do not affect other parts of the software. Testing has been performed to
ensure the changes will have no or low compliance impact to the system where the plugin is
installed.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Make sure that The Unscrambler X v10.3, The Unscrambler X Service Pack 2014 and
Design-Expert Software version 9 are all installed on your computer. If the Unscrambler
application is running in the background it should be closed before installing the plugin.
Plugins and upgrades to The Unscrambler X v10.3 that are newer than SP14 are not
compatible with the Design-Expert Upgrade v1.0, and installation will be prevented if any
such plugins are detected. In this case the plugins in question must be un-installed before

installing this upgrade. The full set plugins and upgrades currently installed are listed in the
HelpAbout dialog of the Unscrambler X.
Note: After installing the Design-Expert Upgrade v1.0, no additional plugins or upgrades
should be installed, as there might be compatibility issues. Please contact CAMO to verify if
your plugin is compatible with the Design-Expert Upgrade v1.0.
Unzip the content of the plugin and run UnscXDesignExpertUpgrade.msi from the 32-bit
folder for 32-bit Unscrambler, alternatively run from the 64-bit folder for 64-bit
Unscrambler.
Note: There is another installation file setup.exe that may alternatively be used to install
the plugin. If you are logged in without administrator privileges, you may right-click on
setup.exe and select Run as administrator.
The Windows operating system may ask for confirmation that you want to install the plugin.
Click Yes to these requests. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the product.
Acceptance of the License Agreement is required in order to proceed with the installation:

A confirmation window will verify if installation is successful.

Start The Unscrambler X from the Windows start menu or desktop shortcut. At any time
the installation of the plugin can be verified in the HelpAbout dialog of The
Unscrambler X, in the section Upgrades and Plugins installed.

The plugin can be un-installed using the regular Windows control panel feature for uninstalling programs (called Add or remove programs, Programs and Features, or similar,
depending on Windows version).
Note: The Unscrambler X Design-Expert Upgrade v1.0 will permanently remove all old

ACTIVATION
Activation of Design-Expert Software is required first time it is opened, either from within
The Unscrambler X (using InsertCreate Design or ToolsModify/Extend Design) or
separately. A Design-Expert activation window will open and ask for an activation key
(serial number) in the format dddd-dddd-dddd-ssss (where d is a numeric digit and s is a
text character).
This serial number is given in the activation email sent from CAMO Software. If for some
reason this email cannot be found, a new email can be automatically generated by using the
Obtain button in the HelpModify License dialog (see below). This email will contain both
and Activation Key for The Unscrambler X (to be entered in the Modify License dialog)
and a Serial Number for Design-Expert (to be entered in the Design-Expert activation
dialog).

design tables, however whatever selection
shown may still be exported.
