The Higher Education in Europe

Europe is a vast multicultural, multilingual continent which is reflected in its strong and
diverse heritage of higher education and academia. Once High School is finished, college is the next
step if we are willing to spend another four or five years in school. College not only prepares us
intellectually, it allows us to learn from our mistakes and become an individual. Without education
we would believe everything we heard because we wouldn't know any better. Just knowing how to
read and write allows us to question what we hear and to stand up for what we believe in. Everything
what is in relation with the humanity: language, mind, feelings, art, moral are achieved only through
education.
Universities are the building of the science, where we find the horizons of knowledge. As
such, universities play vital role compass in the instruction and education of the young generation, in
guiding our actions required. Romanian University plays a major role in the assessment culture in
increasing universal values and also is a powerful shield against the loss of an ancient human
communities, such as the Romanian. Universities solid axle up of different cultures and civilizations,
of ways of life which, for thousands of years, human communities live, think, produce and create
values.
Some European universities celebrate a history of over 1000 years. Today, Europe comprises
around 5000 higher education institutions (universities, university colleges, polytechnics), and
several of the most renowned institutions in the world. European universities and higher education
systems in individual European countries have developed throughout time in response to social
change and scientific progress. However, just as different European countries have become more
integrated economically and politically, in the past two decades there has been a rapid movement
towards a joint European Higher Education Area (EHEA). This implies reforming the very different
higher education systems across Europe to create compatible degrees that are recognisable across
borders. It also implies the creation of a European Research Area (ERA), with intertwined research
programmes and mobile researchers.
The launch of the Erasmus Programme and the European Credit Transfer System have been
important steps undertaken by the European Commission and the European Union Member States.
From the mid 1980's on, the Erasmus Programme started offering small mobility grants to facilitate
student mobility in Europe. It was based on a newly developed European Credit Transfer System, a
vehicle to have students' credits recognised when moving from one university system to another. It
evolved in the logic of growing a European Union common market, which facilitates mobility of
goods and services, and also required a mobile, internationally educated labour force. Within the past
two decades, more than 1.5 million students have been mobile under the Erasmus scheme between
the European Union Member States.
Another important step was the launch of Lisbon Recognition Convention by the Council of
Europe and UNESCO in 1997, which has since been ratified by 48 countries (including some nonEuropean states). The Convention aims at improving the recognition of qualifications by establishing
policies and practices for fair recognition of qualifications. These measures have been important steps
towards realising European higher education without boarders, and the development of a European
Higher Education Area, which formally started a decade later (via the Bologna Process).
Today, European governments and European higher education institutions, in conjunction
with the European Union and stakeholder organisations increasingly collaborate to create dynamic,
unified and transparent higher education and research cooperation. In this regard, three major
processes can be distinguished: the Bologna Process and the European Higher Education Area
(EHEA); the Lisbon Process and the European Research Area (ERA).
Education plays a predominant role in this modern world. In today's world education became
the most important aspect. Education plays a key role in the development of the society. There is day
by day advancement in the field of education. It is the ultimate pathway of success. Education gives a
great deal of support and encourages each and every individual. "Being educated is the biggest asset".
The stunning fact is that education is given highest place in today's world. One should learn to
respect parents or else they will not have values, and one should also learn to respect education or
else they will be ruined. Education will promote knowledge and awareness in rural area. Right to

education is a fundamental right. According to this right children up to age of fourteen should study
but not work, child labor is an offense. Education should be provided to all. It is an essential
commodity like food, clothing and shelter. It is a key for success and it is the real wealth for poor. It
opens the doors of employments. It certainly provides comforts. Education is not only learning about
books but also learning about life. It rapidly increases your skill and awareness. An educated person
will identify the difference between good and bad. In life if education is there with us, there is
everything in life.
