E-Tourist Visa Scheme extended to 37 more countries

The Union Government has extended e-Tourist Visa Scheme to 37


more countries. With this, the total count of countries under the
scheme will become 150.

The new countries included in e-Tourist Visa scheme are Austria,


Albania, Botswana, Brunei, Bulgaria, Bosnia & Herzegovina,
Comoros, Cote dlvoire, Cape Verde, Czech Republic, Croatia,
Eritrea, Denmark, Gabon, Greece, Guinea, Gambia, Ghana, Madagascar, Malawi, Iceland,
Lesotho, Liberia, San Marino, Moldova, Namibia, Romania, South Africa, Swaziland,
Switzerland, Senegal, Serbia, Slovakia, Trinidad & Tobago, Tajikistan, Zambia and
Zimbabwe.

About E-Tourist Visa Scheme

Union Government had launched e-Tourist Visa Scheme (as Tourist Visa on Arrival
scheme) in November 2014.

The e-Tourist Visa Scheme facilitates pre-authorization of Visa i.e. electronic travel

authorisation given to foreigners prior to travel.

Under this scheme, an applicant registers for visa online and receives an email
authorising him/her to travel to India after it is approved.

On arrival, the visitor has to present the authorisation to the immigration authorities who

Lok Sabha has passed Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2016 to grant voting rights to
people who became citizens of India following the exchange of enclaves between India
and Bangladesh.

The bill seeks to amend the Representation of the People Act


(RPA), 1950 and the Delimitation Act, 2002. These Acts regulate
allocation of seats to the Lok Sabha and state legislatures and
delimitation (fixing boundaries) of parliamentary and state
assembly constituencies.

Rajendra Singh appointed as DG of Coast Guard

The Union Government has appointed Rajendra Singh as the


Director General (DG) of Indian Coast Guard (ICG), countrys
coastal protection force.

With this appointment, Rajendra Singh becomes first DG of ICG


from its own internal cadre since it was set up in 1978. So far this
top post was only held by officers who were commissioned in the
Indian Navy.

He will replace Vice Admiral HCS Bisht who has been promoted as the Flag Officer
Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command.

About Rajendra Singh


Mr. Singh is 1980 batch officer of ICG cadre.
Prior to this appointment he was serving as Additional Director General (ADG).

He was the first officer from the Coast Guard cadre elevated to three-star officer by the
Union Defence Ministry during his appointment to as ADG in 2013.

He has commanded each class of Coast Guard Ship in service, which includes the

Interceptor Boat, Fast Patrol Vessel, Inshore Patrol Vessel, Offshore Patrol Vessel and
Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel.

He has served in various capacities both ashore and afloat and has an impeccable track
record in the field of Operations, Administration, HR and Policy and Plans as well.
Awards: He was awarded the Tatrakshak Medal (TM) by the President on Aug 15, 2002.

Indian Coast Guard is Indias statutory multi-mission paramilitary organization that


protects countrys maritime interests and enforces maritime law.

It was established on 18 August, 1978 by the Coast Guard Act, 1978 and operates under
the aegis of Union Ministry of Defence.

It has jurisdiction over the territorial waters of India, including its contiguous zone and
exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
It is countrys fourth armed force after the India Army, Navy and Air Force.
