ABSTRACT
This paper deals with unified power quality conditioner (UPQC),
which aims at the integration of series-active and shunt-active power
filters. The main purpose of a UPQC is to compensate for voltage
imbalance, reactive power, negative-sequence current and harmonics. This
paper discusses the compensation principle and control strategy of the
UPQC in detail. Experimental results obtained from a laboratory
prototype of 20 kVA are shown to verify the viability and effectiveness
of the UPQC

"It is commonly configured with two voltage source converters connected back to
back through a DC link capacitor. However, voltage source topology of UPQC
has a drawback of slow control of onverter output voltage and no short circuit
protection [7]- [8]. In addition, when the active rectifier inside UPQC is used as a
power factor corrector, DC bus voltage oscillations appears which makes the
control of the series filter output voltage more difficult. "

"The rotor side converter is connected in shunt like a conventional DFIG. The
structure and control of the converters is similar to that of a Unified Power
Quality Conditioner (UPQC) [10],[11], hence the new generator is referred as

UPQC integrated Wind Generator (UPQC-WG). Similar structure of DFIG has

bee reported in [7] and [8]. "

"In this context and with the progress of electronics component technology some
efficient solutions as the unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) [1] are used.
It consists of combined series and shunt active filters [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] for
simultaneous compensation of voltage and current. "
