In WoE Frantz Fanon described the struggle of a country which was oppressed by European

colonists. On example of Algeria Fanon introduces the changes that took place in the country
after it was colonized by Europeans. Colonialism is when one country takes over another. When
it happened to Algeria, it took away the rights and freedom of the natives and put the power in
hands of the bourgeoisie. Marxism, ideology by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, is the opposite
of Colonialism, it takes the power from bourgeoisie and gives it back to people.
.WoE is a book by Frantz Fanon about the struggle of Algerians which were under the oppression
of colonialism. Colonialism is when one country is under control of another country; the country
that controls the colony is often referred to as a mother country. Colonies were established for a
variety of reasons: to relieve overpopulation and the resulting poverty; to create new markets; to
establish military bases; to develop new sources of raw materials (hsw). In WoE, FF refers to
African Colonies which were mostly created to exploit the natives and get the colonial power
and the bourgeoisie in charge rich. The natives saw colonists as outsiders because the colonists
came over from another country and took over their land, turned them into slaves and took away
their freedom. Colonists rationalized that their way was better than the country to which they
came, and they took over the upper class and ended up pushing everyone else down. Another
way colonists rationalized their actions is that they were brining new advanced technology to the
country to change things for the better; they also brought in Christian religion and new legal
system (hsw). These new conditions proved harmful to the natives culture and only fueled the
burning fire. Fanon wrote The native is an oppressed person whose permanent dream is to
become the persecutor (54), meaning the natives wanted to seek justice and were just waiting to
take their rights and freedom back. They fought to preserve their national culture because they

did not want to build their nation based on the values of somebody else, but colonists constantly
reminded the natives who is in power. The bourgeoisie were greedy people and they further
destroy the natives spirits by taking over the middle class which in turn pressures the poor
working class. The natives, according to bourgeoisie, had no power to do anything, but they
wanted the power to be free and to express themselves.
.This is where Marxs ideology about human rights comes in. Marxism is a theory of social
organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribe to
the community as a whole(d.com). In WoE human rights are defined as "help to rehabilitate
mankind, and make man victorious everywhere, once and for all (106), which reflects Marxism.
Marxist ideology states that people should be equal, and that was what the natives were looking
for. This ideology reflects in the natives who wanted freedom and not slavery, wanted to elect
their own leaders, and most of all they wanted to be happy. Marxism was rationalized by taking
the power from the colonists and giving it back to the people. It took more than one person to
rectify the situations that the colonists imposed on the country. : : From the book we can see that
colonialism was only beneficial to the colonists and bourgeoisie who occupied the colony; they
took over the country, brought new technology, and promised the natives a brighter future which
never came. While the colonists profited from the third world country, the natives lost their rights
and freedom. Marxs ideology provides a new perspective of the world where people do not have
to be oppressed, and that is why the natives took to Marxs ideology which would bring power to
the community as a whole.
