DAVE v4.1.

4 Installation Instructions

The following are the prerequisite for the installation of the DAVETM version 4
Computer
RAM

PC with Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.1 32bit & 64bit

4 GB (recommended)

Notes
The installer installs (selectable):

DAVE v4.1.4
If not installed yet, a new local library store (location: \Users\<user name>\Infineon\
D_LibraryStore_4.1) including DAVE APPs libraries, Device Descriptions, XMC peripheral
drivers (XMC Lib) and TLE libraries and the device support package (CMSIS files) will be also
installed

DAVE SDK v4.1.4 to modify and develop DAVE APPs, build date 2015-07-23.

The Segger J-Link driver for ARM v5.02h including a USB driver for J-Link OB with CDC.

Installation of DAVE essentially only copies files to a target folder and assigning the software to
installed programs. There is no action on windows variables.
DAVE and DAVE SDK, XMC Lib and most of the DAVE APPs are released as Productive version.
Some of the DAVE APPs may still be released as Beta version. Beta means that these APPs may
have not reached the final design status and should be used for evaluation and test purposes or for
adaption in the development flow. A Productive DAVE APP may not be fully compatible to the
previous Beta version and may require manual adaptions when upgrading from Beta to Productive
release. The DAVE APPs released as Beta version are indicated by the last digit in the version
number (odd or 0). A separate document is provided that outlines all changes that could lead to
upward incompatibilities and describes the manual steps to migrate projects developed with DAVE
V4.0.0 to version 4.1.2 or this version 4.1.4 (DAVE v4.1.4 is fully compatible to DAVE v4.1.2).
The Productive release of previously released Beta APPs usually should become available in around
3 to 6 months after the Beta release (exceptions may happen).
If you have already DAVE v4.1.2 installed and you dont want to install a new DAVE instance you can
also update your existing DAVE v4.1.2 installation to DAVE v4.1.4.
Feedback is appreciated, please send feedback to: dave@infineon.com or post it on the DAVE
Forum or file a ticket.

DAVE v4.1.4 Installation Instructions

1. Procedure to Install DAVE

TM

version 4.1.4:

1.1 Start DAVE-4.1.4_Setup.exe

1.2 Check the installation options as shown in picture below (DAVE SDK is only required to modify or
develop DAVE APPs; it can be also installed later.

1.3 Installation of DAVE APPs libraries and device description.

If the installer doesnt find an existing default local Library Store:
..\Users\<use name>\Infineon\DLibraryStore_4.1
It creates a new local Library Store and stores a complete set of DAVE APPs libraries, Device
Descriptions of XMC4000 and XMC1000 microcontrollers, XMC peripheral drivers (XMC Lib), TLE
drivers and Device support package (CMSIS files).
If there exists already a local Library Store in above mentioned folder, no installation or update
happens.
Please note, the local library store installed with DAVE v4.0.0 cannot be used with DAVE v4.1.4.
1.4 SEGGER J-Link V5.02h
The Installer for the J-Link drivers is automatically started.
Important: Please, keep the default option Install USB Driver for J-Link-OB with CDC (see yellow
marker on the screen shot below) checked.
Otherwise you may not be able to use the J-Link OBD on the various kits of the XMC microcontrollers.

You may also download and install a newer version of the J-Link driver from www.segger.com
Please dont use an older version than v5.02h because older versions do not support the new XMC
devices properly and VCOM related bugs may not be fixed.

2. Update of DAVE Libraries and update of DAVE

Although a complete set of DAVE APPs and other libraries have been installed as described above,
we recommend to check for updates and if updates available to update them.
This is particular recommended if DAVE 4.1.2 has been installed before, because both versions share
the same default local library folder, hence an update has not been performed during installation. In
this case we recommend an installation as described in section 3 to get also new APPs installed.
2.1 Start DAVE-4.1.4 by one of these methods:
Desktop shortcut DAVE-4.1.4
Start -> All Programs -> DAVE-4.1.4 -> DAVE-4.1.4.exe
2.2 Select a workspace folder.
Please create a new workspace the first time you start DAVE v4.
2.3 Check for DAVE APP updates as described below.
