Huddersfield school could become national football

champions

A Huddersfield school has reached the final of a prestigious national

indoor football competition.

Honley High School were crowned winners of the Harrow regional

finals of The Carnegie FDS Cup after beating off competition from
six other schools in the region. They will now represent the region
in the national final held at Leeds Metropolitan University where
they will play against 15 teams from England, Scotland and Wales.

The Leeds Met Carnegie FDS Cup is a 5-a-side Brazilian style indoor
football competition for sixth forms and colleges held throughout
the United Kingdom and the final will be held on March 30 th at Leeds
Metropolitan University. Last year the tournament saw a number of
famous faces in attendance with world freestyle champion John
Farnworth and Leeds United legend and Scotland international Eddie
Gray both present to support competitors and to make the final
presentations.

Brian Mcnair, from the Brazilian Soccer Schools, who organised the
tournament said:
“The York finals were well fought out with a very high standard of
football being played. Honley High School will be worthy
representatives of the region and my congratulations go out to the
team and their coach. They will now compete in the national finals
which will be held at the fantastic setting of Leeds Metropolitan
University and we hope they can bring the cup back to
Huddersfield.”

Former Leeds United player Danny Mills has thrown his support
behind the schools saying:

“I think the skills they learn combined with matches really help
them develop. Brazilian Soccer Schools coaching is great for all
players, helping to develop skills and ball control”.

The famous face from the world of football is yet to be decided,

however it is set to be another star studded event and a hotly
contested competition.

using a small (size 2), weighted and specially manufactured ball.
The game is cited by Brazilian legends such as Pele, Rivelino, Zico,
Careca, Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Juninho amongst others, as being the
game that made them the great players they are.
