Council President Murphy called the meeting to order at 6:04 pm and read the
Open Public Meetings Statement:
The notice requirements provided for in the “Open Public Meetings Act” have
been satisfied. Notice of this meeting was properly given in a notice which was
transmitted to the Times of Trenton and the Trentonian, filed with the Clerk of the
Township of Ewing and posted in the Ewing Township Municipal Complex, all on
the 8th day of January, 2010.
ROLL CALL
DISCUSSION
1. Joe Monzo – Wrap up report – postponed to the first meeting in March when
Mr. Monzo can be present.
4. Tax Levy Waiver Resolution – Chris Jack presented Council with two
scenarios. He checked with DCA about utilizing $500,000 in surplus
and without special permission from DCA, it could not be included in
the two scenarios. Attorney Hartsough wanted to know if one of the
scenarios included what the budget would look like without the need
for a levy cap waiver. Chris Jack commented. The only way we
wouldn’t need a levy cap waiver is if DCA allows the township to
utilize the surplus. Ms. Wollert asked that Harry Haushalter be
invited to the regular meeting the following evening to enter into
Executive Session and discuss the pending litigation.
CONSENT AGENDA
1. Authorization for the Chief Financial Officer to pay Township bills in the
amount of $535,432.86.
The Ordinance was approved for action. Council requested the presence of the Fire
Chiefs at the meeting for second reading.
OLD BUSINESS
NEW BUSINESS
Ron Prykanowski (16 Thurston Avenue) and. Charles Green (979 Bear Tavern Road)
commented on the proposed football field in Moody Park. Mr. Green also questioned the
Hollowbrook budget. Mr. Jack responded. Mr. Green talked about the snowstorm and
electrical outages and wanted to know if there was any post evaluation for seniors.
Mayor Ball said that the firehouses would have been utilized if the need arose, but that it
wasn’t necessary. Todd Roundtree (110 Crescent Ave) asked if there was any update
on the firetrucks being able to drive over the bridges. Mayor Ball responded that DOT
was looking to analyze the bridges and come up with a solution. President Murphy
asked that this issue be put on the Old Business list. Mr. Roundtree also asked that
everyone make sure that their fire hydrants and drains are clear. Kate Tuttle (8 Locke
Court) showed her dismay as to her street not being plowed.
President Murphy asked about the Animal Control Officer handing out bogus literature
about trapping cats and threatening that they could be subjective to fines. Mayor Ball
responded that there was a proposed draft letter and it was shared with some people at the
animal shelter and someone made copies of it and started passing it around. He assured
Council that this was bogus information and should have not been passed out.
There being no further business, President Murphy called for a motion to adjourn.
Mr. Cox so moved, seconded by Ms. Wollert. The meeting was adjourned at 8:37
pm.
