TRENTON Senate President Steve Sweeney on

Tuesday vowed to block Gov. Chris Christies renomination of David F. Bauman to the state Supreme Court, despite nonpartisan praise the Superior Court judge from
Holmdel has drawn from those in Monmouth County legal circles.
This nominee will not have a hearing, and the only
way I will consider a Christie nominee is if the governor
preserves judicial independence by submitting a Democrat for the court, Sweeney, a Gloucester County
Democrat, said in a news release.
Christie first nominated Bauman, 59, a Republican,
for the state Supreme Court in 2012, but the nomination
expired after the Democrat-controlled Senate failed to
give Bauman a confirmation hearing.
The Republican governor announced his renomination of Bauman on Monday at his first news conference
since dropping out of the presidential race and endorsing fellow Republican Donald Trump.
Ronald T. Catelli, president of the Monmouth County
Bar Association, on Tuesday decried attempts to again
deny Bauman a confirmation hearing.
Judge Bauman is an extremely well-respected jurist and an invaluable member of the Monmouth CounAP

TRENTON - New Jerseys presidential primaries

historically dont matter because the party nominations are secured by the time the Garden State holds its
back-of-the-line contests in June.
Dont expect anything different this year.
After the smoke clears from Super Tuesdays balloting, New Jersey and the other late-deciding states
arent likely to have much of a say in picking the nominees.
Political analysts say the expected gains by Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton figure to put them virtually out of reach of their rivals, as
12 states and one territory held presidential primaries
or caucuses for one or both of the major political parties Tuesday.
Theres little evidence to suggest that Trump and
Clinton can be toppled as the national front-runners,
said Geoffrey Skelley of the University of Virginias
Center for Politics.
Given what were seeing in the polls and how the
race has gone so far, its more and more difficult to see
either Clinton or Trump being stopped. That means
theres a fairly good chance that late-going nomination
contests arent going to play a large role because the
front-runners will have long solidified their positions
as the presumptive nominees, Skelley said before the
Tuesday results came in.
New Jersey and California are among the six states
with presidential primaries on June 7. The only later
contest is the District of Columbias June 14 primary.

Traditional late vote

New Jersey traditionally votes in June, with the
2008 cycle being one exception, when the Garden State
was among a slew of states to move their elections up
in the calendar.

TINTON FALLS - Local law enforcement officials

are trying to determine how prescription antidepressants ended up in cereal served to a Swimming River
Elementary School student.
But there are conflicting stories on when officials
acted: Tinton Falls police say they and school officials
acted immediately while the students mother said the
investigation didnt escalate until days later after she
reached out to the Asbury Park Press.
I felt completely disrespected, and I felt like there
was no regard for my daughter, Calvette Dixon told
the Press. I dont feel like they were prepared or wanting to proceed.
Tinton Falls police Capt. David Scrivanic said his department took every precautionary measure we could
to make sure the kids were safe, number one, and the
investigation was opened up.
Tinton Falls Schools Superintendent John Russo said
the district is evaluating the schools response.
Anytime there is a scenario when there are prescription drugs or any other drug in our schools that we
are not aware of, we always want to take into account
