March, 2016 - Volume 3

In my second semester of seminary I took a World Religions

course from Rosemary Radford Ruether, a well-known Roman Catholic theologian. The most memorable class I remember with her came when this septuagenarian with great
enthusiasm described all the great miracles performed by St.
Patrick. She used her whole body to tell these stories so you couldnt helped be sucked in,
and somehow this person who started a holiday that I had always considered in my youth as
an excuse to pinch my brothers became alive in the story that was a boy who was kidnapped
by pirates, forced into slavery, and matured to realize how God was with him and through his
faith he was not only to rise to see freedom, he became a bishop of the country in which he
was once a captive.
St. Patrick listened to God and was able to see his life change. And he then devoted his life to
bringing the Gospel to those who had not heard the Good News. How often do we find ourselves struggling to get through each day? How often do we feel upset? And yet we are in a
much better place than St. Patrick ever was. Easter is fast approaching, and so often we want
the empty tomb without the Good Friday. Christ offered himself as a living sacrifice for all of
our sins. As Holy Week approaches, be in reflection as the triumphant entry quickly turns to
the crucifixion. St. Patrick went back to his captors and worked to educate them in the Gospel, hopefully through this month you can reflect on this holiday in a new way and see how
you can turn your Good Friday into an empty tomb.

UCP Finances
As of February 21st, we had to
borrow $2,500 against our Master Note in order to pay our bills.
Higher heating bills, continued
ministry needs, and cancellation
of worship have all brought us to
this point. We ask that you
prayerfully consider what you
can give.

UCW and Faith Circles will not meet in March.

Evening Circle will meet March 22nd at 7:00pm.

U.C.W. Dues ar e due. Please give your

payment to Marian Ginger.

Mission Project
We will be raising funds to purchase PETS
Personal Energy Transportation during the
month of March.

Quarters!
Bring your quarters with you to church
to put in the quarter bank. The children would like to raise enough money
to buy an animal. Every quarter helps
us reach our goal!

If you are aware of someone in need of a pastoral call, please inform Pastor Kris
on her cell 712-344-2846. She would rather hear from multiple sources than from
no one at all. In these times of privacy rights, hospitals and nursing homes may
not divulge information relating to a resident or patient, so it is very important that
members and/or their families let the Pastor know of all needs for pastoral care.
