inagamecalledwhite.Specificallyinthispartofthebook,Biggerispostedupagainstthe

suchasWhywoulditseemrationalforBiggertotrytoeliminateorhidecertainthingsabout
himselfunlesstherewasasignificantcompellingreasonforhimtodoso?Intruth,Bigger
restrainshimselffromgivinghishonestopinionastohowhetrulyfeels.Inconclusion,Bigger
unknowinglyperpetuatesstereotypesandindoingsoacknowledgesdoubleconsciousness.
AnothertimeBiggerdisplaysdoubleconsciousnessiswhenhemurdersMary.According
toSantos,NativeSonreachesitsclimaxwhenBigger,afteraccompanyingMary(thedaughterof

anyformofevidencebecauseheknowsthatamurdererwhoisblackwillonlycontributetothe
misrepresentationoftheblackcommunity.EssentiallyBiggersinnerturmoiliscausedbythe
realizationthathisskincolorexacerbatesthesituation.
